Remaining

“These are those who were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jerico.” Numbers 26:63
“But among these there was not a man of those who were numbered. . .in the wilderness of Sinai. So there was not left a man of them except Caleb. . .and Joshua.” Numbers 26:65

I feel I can relate to the generation that never made it out of the wilderness of Sinai.

O Lord, even if all my days be spent in the wilderness, I thank You for allowing me to live each one to the fullest with You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

With You

Life is a blur
of rough terrain

each clearing entered
grows over again

but there is beauty
in the wilderness too

each time I look
and always find You.

Numbered

“As the Lord commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the Wilderness of Sinai.” Numbers 1:19
“So all who were numbered of the children of Israel, by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war in Israel – all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.” Numbers 1:45-46

We don’t normally like being numbered – or thought of as a number – or even taking numbers.

Lord God, thank You for numbering us among Your army, for counting us as worthy. May we ever be ready to go to war for You, whether it be on our feet or on our knees. And here is a simple poem . . .

Fit to Fight

I have been numbered, counted
approved to go to war
so what am I hanging back
turning away and hiding for?
As You have already gone ahead
and won the fight
let me not be afraid
to join forces for what is right.
