Understanding Hearts

“For You have hidden their heart from understanding
Therefore You will not exalt them.”
Job 17:4

Understanding friends are such a blessing and a gift.

Lord, You know us and understand us like on one else can . . .and we exalt You and lift You high.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Setting Aside

When we love someone
we want to understand

what is going on
how we can encourage them

so we set aside
preconceived ideas

giving Him our hearts
so we can listen for real.

A Holy Day

“‘This day is holy to the LORD your God, do not mourn nor weep.”  For all the people wept, when they heard the word of the LORD. ”  Nehemiah 8:9

“And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.”  Nehemiah 8:12

There is a sorrow that leads to repentance , when we hear God’s word and are convicted.

Lord, we thank You for not wanting us to mourn and grieve forever, but desire to forgive us and pour out Your love, joy and understanding upon us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

From Weeping to Rejoicing

When I first heard Your Word
and understood my sin

I asked for forgiveness
and was born again

You trade my sorrows
for Your joy and strength

adding to my days
Love’s eternal length.

People of Understanding

“Then, by the good hand of our God upon us, they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, with his sons and brothers, eighteen men . . .”  Ezra 8:18

Having understanding is a step towards compassion.

Oh Lord, we pray and seek You to be men and women of understanding.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The Basics

I may not comprehend algebra
or scientific equations

or have the solutions for
complex complications

but I ask You Lord
to help me understand

to love and care about
the basic needs of fellow man.

* Our very own blogger Bee asked me to thank you
for your prayers and let you know that she is the Queen

she says, “I’ll Bee Back!

By His Hand Upon Me

“All this,” said David, “the LORD made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.”  1 Chronicles 28:19

I don’t understand everything in His written Word.

Lord, I trust You to help me understand what You want me to each day.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

When I Need To Know

By Your Hand upon me
I will understand

all that You
desire me to

of what is written
what is planned.

An Understanding Heart

“. . .I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.” 1 Kings 3:7
“And your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.”  1 Kings 3:8
“Therefore give to your servant an understanding heart . . .”  1 Kings 3:9

What a blessing it is to be among His people.

Lord, please give me an understanding heart to know how to encourage others in You and to You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

We Ask

It’s a little overwhelming
this world in which we live
chock full of people
all with much to give
so as You call us to join in
and be a part
we ask for wisdom from Your word
and understanding hearts.

A Wise and Understanding People

“Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people’.” Deuteronomy 4:6

What other nation had God taken from out of another and called His own, speaking to them and leading them by day and by night?

Thank You, Lord, for giving us Your Holy Spirit, so that we might be a wise and understanding people too, able to love and minister in Your name. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Not From Us

There is a wisdom
and understanding
that does not come
from ourselves.
It is His
and He gives it
as we follow Him
and no one else.

No Shame In Asking

“And with many such parables He spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.
But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.” Mark 4:23-24

I wonder if the disciples felt a little embarrassed for not understanding? Or if they pretended like they understood when they didn’t? And don’t I do that too, sometimes?

Jesus, thank you for not shaming us when we don’t understand, but patiently explaining as we ask. I’ll trust that You know when I’m ready to hear what You have to say. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Hand Fed

When I don’t understand
and am feeling a little confused
You calm my fears
and hold me close
until I get used

to the fact that I can’t always know
all there is to know
but You will share
what I can handle
as I seek and grow.
