I was unclean

outside the camp

when Jesus
called my name

and made
forgiveness known.

Lord Jesus, I will thank You forever for Your forgiveness and healing touch upon my life.

“As for the leper who has the infection, his clothes shall be torn, and the hair of his head shall be uncovered (disheveled), and he shall cover his mustache and call out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ “

“He shall remain [ceremonially] unclean as long as the disease is on him; he is unclean. He shall live alone; he shall live outside the camp.”

A Distinction

I make the difference
between what is sacred

and what’s considered

between the unclean
and what is pure

by the power of
My name.

Lord, I desire to know all that is sacred to You.

“Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the Tent of Meeting, so that you will not die – it is a permanent statute throughout your generation – “

“and to make a distinction and recognize a difference between the holy (sacred) and the common (profane), and between the [ceremonially] unclean and the clean [Ezekiel 44:23] . . .”

Open Vessels

“This is the law when a man dies in a tent: All who come into the tent and all who are in the tent shall be unclean seven days; and every open vessel, which has no cover fastened on it, is unclean.” Numbers 19:14-15

Much can and has been said about being open minded.

Thank You, Lord, for Your Holy Spirit which covers and filters what comes into Your vessels. And here’s a simple poem . . .

His Filter

To be an open vessel
with a Holy Spirit lid
allowing in what brings life
shutting out what reeks of sin.

Eaten Away

“Then the priest shall look at the plague after it has been washed; and indeed if the plague has not changed its color, though the plague has not spread, it is unclean, and you shall burn it in the fire; it continues eating away whether the damage is outside or inside.” Leviticus 13:55

I’ve tried to wash away “plagues” by myself. It never works for me.

Jesus, help me run to You with everything, whether it is visible to anyone else or not. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Inside Damage

What is this plague
that eats at me
– consuming my thoughts
– and activities
keeping me from all
You want me to be. . .
– time to be cleansed
– and set free.

Raw Places

“But when raw flesh appears on him, he shall be unclean.” Leviticus 13:14

I consider my own raw places. They can go deeper than the skin – a festering leprosy – and oh how unclean I feel.

Lord, thank You for coming near and touching those places in me that no one else could. And here’s a simple poem . . .

I come before You crying
“unclean, unclean”

You see the emotional damage
and know just what I need.

So instead of sending me to dwell
alone outside the camp

You come too, and hold my disease
until I’m healed and well.

(note: I’m not really happy with this poem! ha! Struggling to get it to say what I am feeling. So it’s subject to change! And maybe you can come up with a better ending for it?)
