More Frightening

“Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.”

Shouldn’t it have been more frightening to see the man still demon possessed?

Oh Lord, help me embrace the changes that You bring more than the pain I’m accustomed to. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Help me accept change
for what it is

and not cling to
my painful past

to exchange what I’ve known
for the hope of what will be

a life made different
joy in You that lasts.

Walk This Way

“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘I am the Lord your God.’
‘According to the doings of the land of Egypt where you dwelt, you shall not do; and according to the doings of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, you shall not do, nor shall you walk in their ordinances.'” Leviticus 18:2-3

The children of Israel were in a uniquely different place. Unable to do what they once did, nor able to do what others were currently doing meant they would most surely need the Lord their God.

Jesus, may the difference You make in my life reflect my dependence on You today. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Where He’s Bringing Me

Leaving the past behind
and walking on ahead

not doing what others do
but leaning on You instead

keeps me from falling back into
the mire You pulled me from

and requires a mega dose of
Your Holy Spirit’s power and love.

Going Back

“An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, ‘Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.'”  Matthew 2:14

I wonder at God sending the young Jesus and His parents into Egypt for safety.  Of all places.  Wasn’t it here that the people suffered great oppression and bondage?

Lord, I love how You can use anything and everything – even painful places from our past – to bring about Your plan and purpose for us.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

I tell You I can’t go there
– it’s like a bad poem
– that can’t be fixed

You listen tenderly
– as You care for my wounds
– giving me time

to revise my perspective
– before sending me back again.
