Merciful and Faithful

 

He had to be made
like His brethren

in order to be
our merciful High Priest

making propitiation
for our sins

suffering temptation
He gives us relief.

“Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be made a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”

“For in that He Himself has suffered being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”

Hebrews 2:17,18 NKJV

Being Tempted

 

I will fill you with
the Holy Spirit

and the truth of
My word

for when the devil
tempts you

and twists all that
you’ve heard.

You establish a way out of temptation.

“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.” Luke 4:1,2,13 NKJV

Underestimating Jesus

“And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”  Matthew 4:9

I was encouraged as I re-read the account of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness.  The devil underestimated who Jesus was and didn’t understand that He already had everything He needed.

Thank You, Lord, for the wonder of who we are in You and for giving us everything we will every need.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

All I Need

I am tempted
to feel slighted
to be offended
to want more
until I think
of all You are
all You’ve done
what’s still in store.
