Swift To Hear

Oh Lord, may we all
be quick to hear

but not so fast
to speak

and even slower
to show anger

for its Your righteousness
we seek.

**********

Lord, I want to listen much more than I talk, and ask that anger be an emotion that I rarely rise to.

**********

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” James 1:19-20. NKJV

Pleasing

I have entrusted you with
the gospel

so that you
can speak

not worried about
pleasing men

but only to
please Me.

**********

I can please You for You are with me.

**********

“But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel [that tells the good news of salvation through faith in Christ], so we speak, not as [if we were trying] to please people [to gain power and popularity], but to please God who examines our hearts [expecting our best].

All Set

My Spirit
will enter into you

each time
I speak

opening
up your ears

setting you on
your feet.

You establish my feet beneath me.

“Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me.” Ezekiel 2:2 NKJV

I’ll Speak In You

I will teach you
what to say
and how to speak
to men

and you will not
be afraid
to confess Me
before them.

My confessions are established by You.

“But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:19,20,32 NKJV

To Profit

From the beginning
I have spoken

so that
you can hear

Me teach you
how to profit

and guide you
ever near.

My profit is established in You.

“Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, I  was there. And now the Lord GOD and His Spirit have sent Me. Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:16,17 NKJV

In Our Own Tongues

” – we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”  Acts 2:11 NKJV

Language is not a problem for God.

Thank You, Lord, for speaking to me in a way I’ll understand.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

You talk to me
in a way
that I can
understand

for though You always
remain the same
You speak uniquely
to each lamb.

God bless you as He speaks your language today!

How Long?

“Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said;

‘How long till you put an end to words?
Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak.'”   Job 18:1-2

Bildad forgot he had gone to Job at Job’s place . . .and he could leave.

Lord, today I desire to sit with You and just listen without feeling compelled to speak. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Finally

Job rebuked by his friends / William Blake

I come to You
throughout the day
fractured times
prayers splinter away.

You stay the same
You never leave
till I can finally
listen and lean.

Talking vs. Non-talking

“Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, ‘Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city’.” Acts 18:9-10

Somehow I have trouble imagining Paul being afraid to speak.

Lord, please let me know when to keep silent and when to speak up. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Waiting To Hear

Am I afraid
or is there a reason

why I haven’t
said a word?

To be sure
I will listen

and speak if He says
I should.
