Why They Slept

“When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, ‘ Why do you sleep? Rise and pray lest you enter into temptation’.” Luke 22:45-46

The disciples often get bad mouthed for falling asleep at a time like this. Reading “sleeping from sorrow” puts it in a different light.

Thank You, Lord, for not coming just to tell us what we’re doing wrong, but to show us a better way. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Compassion Even When

Weary with grief, pulled
down into emotionally
drained sleep, You don’t
condemn our condition,
but teach us to
pray against temptation,
knowing all that
still awaits.
