Good and Pleasant

“Behold,  how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!”  Psalm 133:1

Sports enthusiasts take great pleasure in their teams working in unison and winning games.

Lord, may we seek ways to be united, despite differences, in order to please You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Soaked

As oil poured
upon the head

runs down to
the garment’s edge

so does the Spirit
thoroughly soak

those working together
sharing His yoke.

Sweet

“May my meditation be sweet to
Him;
I will be glad in the LORD.”  Psalm 104:34

It can bless us to hear our little ones thinking out loud.

Lord, thank You for transforming us so that we can have thoughts that are pleasing to You.  And here’s a simple poem  .  . .

Sown

May my heart
be happy in You

and my mind
be overflowed

with all the gentle
and sweet things

that in me
You have sown.

Talking The Talk

“Surely God will not listen to empty talk,
Nor will the Almighty regard it.”  Job 35:13

If there is empty talk, there must also be full talk.

Lord, may my talk be full of You and all that pleases You.  And here’s a simple poem . .

Pass It On
So many words
that I can chose
ones that are empty
or full of You.

Empty talk is
a waste of time
but full talk passes on
something Divine.

Wanting More (For Others)

“So Haman came in, and the king asked him, ‘What shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?’  Now Haman thought in his heart, ‘Whom would the king delight to honor more than me?’ ”  Esther 6:6

When I was a new born believer, struggling with “self” confidence and low “self” esteem, God told me three little words . . .”Think of others.”

Lord, help us to want for others more than we want for ourselves.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Found Wanting

source – oneyearbibleblog.com

“Who could the king want
to honor more than me?”

set Haman up
for a catastrophe

but, “who could I want
great things for today?”

delights the King
and so I pray.

Abounding More and More

“Finally then brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God .. .”  1 Thessalonians 4:1

To abound more and more sounds wonderful.

Lord, we thank You and praise You that we can never come to the end of You.  There is always more.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

An Abounding Walk

Aub’s pine tree that almost died, but is starting to abound more and more!

Oh to abound
more and more and more

in the work of You
our Holy, Holy Lord

to walk in such a way
that we please You everyday

this is what we pray
oh Holy, Holy Lord.

Pleasing God

“Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.”  2 Corinthians 5:9

It can be hard to please some people.

Lord, we thank You that Your Word gives us countless ways to please You, none of which are as difficult as the hoops we jump through for each other.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

No Hoops

It’s not so hard to please Me
as you might think it is
for I delight in you
and what makes me smile is this
to see you loving Me
and each other too
causes Me to sing with joy
knowing all that Love can do.

No Going Back

“Therefore take diligent heed to yourselves, that you love the Lord your God.” Joshua 23:11
“Or else, if indeed you go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations – these that remain among you – and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you,” Joshua 23:12
“know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you . . .” Joshua 23:13

Turning away from God can be disastrous.

Oh Lord, let any turning I do be toward You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Diligently Yours

We love You Lord
and wish to stay

only Yours
day after day

bowing down
to Holy You

the One Who’s for us
and ever true.

When Deceived

“But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,
they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors. (Joshua 9:3-4)
So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them. (Joshua 9:15)
And it happened at the end of three days, after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors who dwelt near them. (Joshua 9:16)
Then all the rulers said to all the congregation, ‘We have sworn to them by the Lord God of Israel; now therefore we may not touch them’.” (Joshua 9:19)

The children of Israel weren’t happy that the rulers had mistakenly made a covenant with a nearby people.

Oh Lord, I ask for grace when I’ve been deceived, in order to do what would please and honor You above my hurting pride. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Pleasing Him

Being made a fool of
over and over again
embarrassed and angry
wanting to exact revenge
but better pride be wounded
and we more humbly live
to please and honor
and give glory to Him.

Over Taken

“And all these blessings shall come upon you and over take you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 28:2

The people had been overtaken by the Egyptians, by fear, by oppression, and by doubt. To be overtaken by blessings? That was something to be glad about!

Oh Lord, we thank You for the blessings You lavish upon us. But may we be overtaken more and more by the desire to hear and obey Your voice. And here is a simple poem . . .

His Voice In Our Ear

God is talking
and we’re listening
wanting to know
what He’s all about.
We are asking
God is answering
oh so close
no need to shout.

The Right Thing To Do

“If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man shall not be married to a stranger outside the family; her husband’s brother shall go into her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her.
And it shall be that the first born son which she bears will succeed to the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel.” Deuteronomy 25:5-6

What I noticed in this, and the other laws God set forth, is His desire for His people to do the right thing. And the right thing to do wasn’t usually the easiest thing.

Oh Lord, we desire to do what is right in Your sight above what is right in ours. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Doing Right In His Sight

It might be rather humbling
require a letting go
maybe a difficult forgiveness
but He wants you to know
He sees you in this moment
even though it’s hard
making the right choices
because He’s in your heart.
