A Part of the Whole

“Therefore they said, ‘If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession, and do not take us over the Jordan’.
And Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, ‘Shall your brethren go to war while you sit here?’
‘Now why will you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord has given them’.” Numbers 32:5-7

The families of Gad and Reuben saw where they needed to be, as individuals. Moses saw and thought of the children of Israel as a whole.

Lord, thank You that whatever plans You have for me will encourage others as well. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Crossing Jordan

I have needs
I know You see them

and You see
my brother’s too

help me cross
the Jordan for him

knowing I’ll
be filled by You.

Numbered

“As the Lord commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the Wilderness of Sinai.” Numbers 1:19
“So all who were numbered of the children of Israel, by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and above, all who were able to go to war in Israel – all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.” Numbers 1:45-46

We don’t normally like being numbered – or thought of as a number – or even taking numbers.

Lord God, thank You for numbering us among Your army, for counting us as worthy. May we ever be ready to go to war for You, whether it be on our feet or on our knees. And here is a simple poem . . .

Fit to Fight

I have been numbered, counted
approved to go to war
so what am I hanging back
turning away and hiding for?
As You have already gone ahead
and won the fight
let me not be afraid
to join forces for what is right.

Stone Rolling

“And they said among themselves, ‘Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?’ ” Mark 16:3

I have huge stones of yet unanswered prayer in my life.

Thank You Lord, for rolling away the stone and sitting at the right hand of God so that nothing can ever separate us from You and Your love. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Unsealing Tombs

Yet unanswered prayer sits
like heavily sealed tombs
trying to block
my view of You
but You roll away
any doubt I feel
assuring me You have a plan
and a purpose that’s real.

Praying with everyone today who face stones that need rolled away.

*This is the last post from The Gospel of Mark. Time to head back to the Old Testament tomorrow and start The Fourth Book of Moses called Numbers. :)*

Jesus Watching

“And what I say to you I say to all; ‘Watch!’ ” Mark 13:37

We are a people who like to watch all sorts of things . . .sporting and music events, sunsets and sunrises, whales and birds.

Thank You, Jesus, for telling us to watch for the most spectacular happening ever – Your return to earth. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Something Else Is Coming

I watch for the postman
to bring me the mail
and I check to see what the weather
will be like as well
but may I never forget You’re coming,
to watch for You above all,
and listen for Your trumpet
to sound out it’s mighty call.

Inside Israel – Prayers for the Prime Minister

Hi and welcome today! 🙂  I have an older letter to share  from J of Jerusalem, from about a month ago. I still think that it is relevant so am going ahead and posting it! Praying you and yours are led by Him daily, further into His will.  Thank you for your prayers today.

from J . . .

I have been reading the book of Hebrews today where it is written 3 times:

“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness…” Heb. 3:2, 3:15, 4:7 – Psalm 95:7

I also picked up my father’s old Hebrew/English ‘Mackhzor’ or ‘prayer book for the Yom Kippur service’ and was reading there to be along with the people.  It is a LONG book – more then 500 small pages, read through out the 24 hour period – and I have not, nor will read the entire book.  But the book is mostly scripture, along with some elaborated prayers from those scriptures.  They are sung in the synagogues.  I was reading this morning many of the Psalms and much of Genesis and Exodus there.  THIS IS A PARTICULAR PRAYER REQUEST FOR OUR PRIME MINISTER. He is also reading these things, indeed, some of you may recall that during his last term in office, one daughter and I went to our local synagogue to sit in the service and pray…and there he was sitting directly below us, praying his heart out!  We were given the great privilege of praying FOR him.  At that time we had no idea that the following morning he would ‘suddenly’ open the ‘Hashmonim Tunnel’ in the Old City, stirring up much (ridiculous) conflict by our ‘peace partners’ saying we were trying to collapse the Temple Mount which has their mosque on it!
At any rate…this is a small part of what I (and he) read this morning: (my dad’s copy is from 1942 so the English translation is in old English.)

“Our God and God of our fathers, let us be remembered by thee for good: grant us a visitation of salvation and mercy from thy heavens, the heavens of old; and remember unto us , O Lord our God, the love of the fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, the covenant and the lovingkindness ant eh oath which thou swarest unto Abraham our father on Mount Moriah, and the binding with which he bound his son Isaac on the alter, as it is written in the law:…(Gen chap 22 is read here)…Sovereign of the Universe!  May it by thy will, O Lord, our God and God of our fathers, that thou remember to us the covenant of our fathers; and as Abraham , our father, overcame his pity for his only son, and was willing to slay him that he might do thy will, so may thy pity overcome thine anger against us, that thy mercy be added to thy other attributes and that thou judge us not according to the strict measure of thy justice but deal with us, O Lord, our God, according to the attributes of lovingkindness and mercy.  And in they great goodness may the fierceness of thy wrath turn aside from thy people, they city, thy land and thine inheritance.  And establish unto us, O Lord our God, the word which thou hast promised us through Moses, thy servant, as it is written: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham I will remember; and I will remember the land.

At all times let a man fear God as well in private as in public, acknowledge the truth, and speak the truth in his heart’…”

Please understand that this is the tone of the entire book.  It begins with praise and thanksgiving and is peppered through out with more, and with scripture…the character of God as compared with the character of man, and His promises for the land and the people…This was carried through 2,000 years when there WAS no land of Israel for us. Our Prime Minister is right now, reading this while facing fierce world pressure to divide the land!  Please pray for God to prevail in his life today in a way that will enable him to lead our nation with the fear of God into God’s plan.  Please also pray that his life be protected as well.
BLESSINGS! Your sis

Yoke of Rest

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Matthew 11:29

Jesus calls all those who are already laboring and heavy laden to come take His yoke.  I hear myself start to whine . . .”But I’m tiiiirrrreeeedddd.”

We thank You that there’s a rest for our souls in laboring for You, Jesus, that nothing can disturb.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

No Retirement Plans

My mind may spin logistical
my body soon complain
but there’s a rest within my soul
each time I lift Your name.

Oh, I may need to sleep deep
and take a break now and then
but I never want to remove the yoke
from this lowly- hearted Son of Man.

Going Back

“An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, ‘Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.'”  Matthew 2:14

I wonder at God sending the young Jesus and His parents into Egypt for safety.  Of all places.  Wasn’t it here that the people suffered great oppression and bondage?

Lord, I love how You can use anything and everything – even painful places from our past – to bring about Your plan and purpose for us.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

Revision

I tell You I can’t go there
– it’s like a bad poem
– that can’t be fixed

You listen tenderly
– as You care for my wounds
– giving me time

to revise my perspective
– before sending me back again.

Generation after Generation

“So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.”  Matthew 1:17

Through out each generation leading up to Christ’s birth, God had a plan and a purpose. I can trust that He still does today.

Father, we thank You that no matter what is said and done, nothing will undo Your plans and purposes for us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Continuing His Plan

As time goes by
and generations pass
we wonder how much longer
this will all last

but You have a plan
that’s centered on Christ
and Your purpose continues
as we live out our lives.

Covered

For Aubrey’s MRI, I tried to arrange to be with her until she fell asleep.  The hospital staff had other plans and procedures.  So, she went back for anesthesia with the nurses, covered by God.

Jesus, thank You for keeping and covering us.  There’s way too much going on beyond our control, so we trust in Your’s  today.

Here’s a simple poem to remind us that we’re covered by Him.

Plan A

Abram was afraid
he’d be killed for his wife
so he claimed Sarai as his sister
in order to save his life,
forgetting he was covered –
God has all things in hand –
no need to worry
about what others plan.

” I will bless you
And make your name great;
and you shall be a blessing.”  Genesis 12:2
