Hypocrisy

“In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all,  ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.'”  Luke 12:1 NKJV

Too much people pressure can make it harder for me to keep my beliefs, words and actions all matching up.

Thank You, Lord, for warning us about the temptation to say one thing and do another and for giving us Your Holy Spirit to keep us on track.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Oh Lord, You know
all my thoughts

all my words
all my heart

correct me now
so I can be

true to You
eternally.

God bless you as you stay real and vulnerable for His glory!

Inside The Cup

“Blind Pharisees, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.”  Matthew 23:26

One of the first things Jesus addressed in me was my thought life.

Thank You, Lord, for caring more about what is going on inside of me than how I look to others.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

How I look
on the inside

my thoughts
and my beliefs

matters more
than the outside

so come change
and cleanse me please.

God bless you inside and out!

It’s What Comes Out

“Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”  Matthew 15:11 NKJV

The Pharisees were concerned about His disciples not washing their hands before they ate.

Thank You, Lord, for washing us on the inside.  And here’s a simple poem  . . .

Oh Lord You said
it’s what comes out
of a man
that defiles him

so let my heart, my mind
be purified
by Your Word
as it goes in.

God bless you and Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!

Lawful To Do Good

“Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”  Matthew 12:12 NKJV

“Then He said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’  And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.”  Matthew 12:13 NKJV

“Then the Pharisees went out and took counsel against Him, how they might destroy Him.”  Matthew 12:14 NKJV

“But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there; and great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.”  Matthew 12:15  NKJV

Jesus withdrew from that area, but not from healing on the Sabbath.

Thank You, Jesus, for being Lord of the Sabbath and Healer of all.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Lord, if I do good
in Your name
and am hated
for it

please give me wisdom
to continue
and not withdraw
from it.

God bless you as you continue in His name.

Drawn To Jesus

“Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.” Luke 15:1
“And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, ‘This man receives sinners and eats with them’.” Luke 15:2

I marvel at how Jesus – so holy, pure, divine – could draw the exact opposite kind of folks (like me) to Himself . . .and continue to draw them to this day.

Oh Lord, help us receive all those You came for, in Your same Spirit and love. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Well Received

The crowds were forming
bigger than the Pharisees drew

His words were flowing
in a manner that grew

hope and life from what
was crushed and pressed

that gave forgiveness,
freedom and love’s rest.

Present To Heal

“Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” Luke 5:17

Did the Pharisees and teachers of the law realize they needed healed? Do I?

Oh Lord, please remind me of my brokenness today and my dire need of You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Willing To

Just as the sick
need the Great Physician
to touch
and heal,
inner brokenness
is redeemed
only by
the Master’s skill.

Learning To Be Mindful

“Then He charged them saying, ‘Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.’
So they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘It is because we have no bread.'” Mark 8:15-16

It’s easy for me to elevate the apostles and forget that they were human . . .just like me.

Thank You, Jesus, for taking ordinary earthly people and making disciples of them. And here’s a simple poem . . .

The Things of God

Jesus warned them of the Pharisees’ leaven
and they looked upon their bread,

He spoke to them in parables
but they didn’t understand what He said

Yet Jesus didn’t throw up His hands
and simple walk away

He taught them to be mindful
of the things of God each day.

Who’s Listening?

“So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.” Matthew 27:66

The chief priests and Pharisees guarded Jesus’ dead body. They had heard and remembered His claims to rise again the third day, even though they didn’t believe Him.

Lord, help us find a way to share Your word with those who persecute us and disbelieve today . . .in case tomorrow they remember as You reveal Yourself to them. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Picked Up

His words fall
like stones
that are picked up
and thrown back
at us
but they are
picked up.

Saying vs. Doing

“The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses seat.  Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works, for they say and do not do.”  Matthew 23:2-3

We have rules, regulations and laws to observe within our governments, churches, workplaces, marriages and families.

Oh Lord, help us do what we must, knowing all is in Your sight. And here is a simple poem . . .

It’s All Good

Some don’t say what they mean
or mean what they say
or do what they
tell us to do.
But Jesus will come
and set all things right
letting His truth
be our delight.

A Sign From Heaven

“Then the Pharisees and Sadducees  came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.”
“He answered and said to them, ‘ . . .You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.”  Matthew 16:1-3

When traveling, I depend on signs all the time.  Route signs, exit signs, street signs and even stop signs.

Jesus, thank You for leaving us sign after sign, pointing to You..  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Salvation Sign

Cruising down life’s highway
making pretty good time
until it turned into a race
one not of Your design.

Please keep me on the road
that leads to Your cross
the sign of my salvation
that stays me from getting lost.

Has Jesus left you a sign today?
