The First Commandment

“You shall have no other gods before me.”  Exodus 20:3

The one thing that needs to be established on the first day of school is who the teacher is.  Their name is on the chalk board.  They are standing in front of us.  They talk, we listen.  They hold the keys to what we need to know.

Thank You, Lord, for making it clear that You and You alone are God, the only one we need to worship. Here’s a simple poem . . .

Lesson #1

I wake each morning in the wilderness
to find my fire has burned low . . .
how do You teach someone like me
what I need to know
not only to survive
but to multiply and grow?
You show me how to worship
You and You alone.
