Needy

imagenew born deer found by

its mother lay still

My special needs girl has gotten needier.  That means I am now more needy too.

“I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8 NKJV

A Part of the Whole

“Therefore they said, ‘If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession, and do not take us over the Jordan’.
And Moses said to the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, ‘Shall your brethren go to war while you sit here?’
‘Now why will you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord has given them’.” Numbers 32:5-7

The families of Gad and Reuben saw where they needed to be, as individuals. Moses saw and thought of the children of Israel as a whole.

Lord, thank You that whatever plans You have for me will encourage others as well. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Crossing Jordan

I have needs
I know You see them

and You see
my brother’s too

help me cross
the Jordan for him

knowing I’ll
be filled by You.

Given For Others’ Needs

“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.” Numbers 3:6
“And they shall attend to his needs and the needs of the whole congregation . . .” Numbers 3:7

I read this and wonder how the Levites felt about being given to meet Aaron and the congregation’s needs? What if they had wanted to be farmers, artisans, shepherds or men of war?

Lord, please help me to want what You know I need. And to see the need behind others’ wants. And here’s a simple poem . . .

We, The Needy

Needs curl up in my lap
and sit across the table from me.
They ring on the phone,
call from the other room
and spill out of
opened envelopes.

I begin to
turn them over
and pick them up
by being ever so needy
of You.

Moved With Compassion

“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude, and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.”  Matthew 14:14

In the verses before this, Jesus had left by boat to be alone.  He’d heard John the Baptist had been beheaded.

O Lord, fill me with compassion even when it’s not easy or convenient.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Held There

I long to be alone
– to check out and slip away
but the needs of those around me
– compel me yet to stay
to see them through Your eyes
– doing all that I can
for I, too, am held
– in the Compassionate One’s hand.
