“And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni*, but his father called him Benjamin.**”  Genesis 35:13 NKJV

*Literally Son of My Sorrow
**Literally Son of the Right Hand

Labels and names can begin to define us.

Thank You, Lord, for giving us new identities in You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The label
that they give you

and the things
that they say

can never
define you

only Jesus
may.

God bless the you He says you are today!

The Born

“To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg (literally means division) for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.”  1 Chronicles 1:19

Names often reflected what was happening in the people’s lives.

Lord, we thank You that every single person born is a momentous moment for You, and no one is unplanned. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Treasured

New life comes
in such a fragile way
dependent, counting on us
needing help to stay.
So each one is loved
thought of endlessly
planned for, delighted in
by their Father King.

Your Names Are Written

“Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20

I love that while we can celebrate each victory, it’s still all about Him and what He’s done.

Oh Lord, thank You that whatever good or bad happens today, it can never overshadow the fact that we are Yours. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Non-erasable

Satan’s constant lies
eat away at our joy
we get knocked down
feeling lower than before

but our names are written
where they can never be erased
by Heaven’s pierced hand
in the blood of His grace.
