Does This Offend You?

“”Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, ‘This is a hard saying; who can understand it’?” John 6:60
“When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples murmured about this, He said to them, ‘Does this offend you’?” John 6:61

How can I be offended by the One who died for all my offenses?

Lord, when You speak a harder truth that I don’t understand, I desire to stay humbled before You until I do. And here’s a simple poem . . .

A Hard Saying

Eat My flesh
and drink My blood
and you shall abide
in Me.

Your fathers ate manna
and are dead –
eat this Bread
and live.

(from John 6:56, 58)

So He Humbled

“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8:3

There can be God reasons beyond our reasoning.

Thank You, Lord, for knowing what I need to stay lovingly humble and obedient before you. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Allowing This

It’s humbling to be
lovingly led
taken by the hand
and graciously fed
but better for us
in the long run
that pride be wrecked
and overcome.

What?

“And the house of Israel called its name manna.”  Exodus 16:31

For a long time I assumed manna meant “bread from heaven.”.  But when it first appeared to the people as a small round substance covering the wilderness, they asked, “What is it?”  So the word manna literally means “What?”.

Lord, what is it that You want me to take in from Your word and the happenings around me?  Please help me to feed on what You send me today.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

Where?

No stores to run to
here in the wilderness,
guess I won’t be grabbing
that fast food sandwich,
but plenty of time
to seek You out
and find the good
in what’s laying about.

What has God given to sustain you today?
