Arise and Eat

“And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.'”  1 Kings 19:7

“So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.”  1 Kings 19:8

If we think about it, all of our journeys are too great for us . . .but for Jesus.

Lord, thank You for being the food we need to go on today.   And here’s a simple poem . . .

This Great Journey

We are all on a journey
this walk with the Lord

the way is known to be narrow
the path can seem very long

let us arise and eat early
what He willingly serves

and go on in the strength
of the Lord and His word.

Turn and Take Your Journey

“On this side of the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this law, saying,
‘The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, “You have dwelt long enough at this mountain.
Turn and take your journey . . .” Deuteronomy 1:5-7

How the children of Israel must have rejoiced to hear those words.

Lord, we wait ready and with anticipation for when You say, “long enough.” And here’s a simple poem . . .

His Fulfillment

Living in the shadow of this mountain
so long it feels like home
but You never intended us to think
this was the end of the road.

So now You call for us to pick up
to journey on and so we go
into all that You have promised
the fulfillment that You know.

Whatever Good

“And it shall be, if you go with us – indeed it shall be – that whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same we will do to you.” Numbers 10:32

Moses really wanted – really needed – his father-in-law to come with him to the place God was giving them.

Oh Lord, as we desire loved ones to journey with us to You, may we lavish on them the love and grace, forgiveness and mercy that You pour on us daily. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Doing Likewise

Accepted, brought in
out of the cold
how can I not do likewise
after all I’ve been shown?
Seated at the table
though unworthy, I
can now offer grace and mercy
knowing I deserved to die.

Journeying By Cloud

“Whether it was two days, a month, or a year that the cloud remained above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would remain encamped and not journey; but when it was taken up, they would journey.” Numbers 9:22

I’ve thought it would be so nice to have a cloud like this to guide me.

Lord, please help me to know when to stop and stay, and when to go, by the power of Your Holy Spirit. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Holy Spirit Compass

We don’t have a cloud hovering by day
or the appearance of fire at night
to show us the way to go
and when the time is right

but He has given us His Spirit
to guide us through this life
to help us take those steps of faith
as our inner compass of Holy sight.
