Be Astonished

“Look at me and be astonished;
Put your hand over your mouth.
Even when I remember I am terrified,
And trembling takes hold of my flesh.”  Job 21:6

Just reading about Job’s condition is so shocking, I couldn’t imagine seeing him in person.

Lord, help me not forget the state I would be in if not for You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Still Trembling

source – ryancouch.wordpress.com

Job was one day in favor
loved and revered

the next day in ashes
boils and tears

so, Lord, let me yet tremble
at all You have done

and what Your sacrifice
has saved me from.

“Since Man Was Placed On Earth”

“Then Zaphar the Naamathite answered and said, . . .
‘Do you not know this of old,
Since man was placed on earth,
That the triumphing of the wicked is short
And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment
‘.”  Job 20:1,4-5

Zaphar gave a good speech on the wicked, but Job wasn’t wicked.

Lord, please help us forgive  friends and family when they accuse us, knowing it is truly the accuser of the brethren speaking through them.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Where We Are At

source – blueeyedennis-siempre.blogspot.com

Satan is a liar
there’s no end to what he’ll do

to deceive and discourage us
trying to tear us away from You

even to speaking
through friends and family

but nothing can change Whose we are
and where we’re at, eternally.

My Redeemer Lives

“Oh, that my words were written!
That they were engraved on a rock
With an iron pen and lead, forever!
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth; . . .”   Job 19:23-25

Job was SO right!

Lord, may more and more come to know that we are in desperate need of a Redeemer and You are He.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Only One

There is only One who can redeem me
from all my sin

only One who had the power
and authority to step in

only One who died for me
and then rose again

to show the world that redemption
is only possible through Him.

How Long?

“Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said;

‘How long till you put an end to words?
Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak.'”   Job 18:1-2

Bildad forgot he had gone to Job at Job’s place . . .and he could leave.

Lord, today I desire to sit with You and just listen without feeling compelled to speak. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Finally

I come to You
throughout the day
fractured times
prayers splinter away.

You stay the same
You never leave
till I can finally
listen and lean.

Unimpaired Integrity

“Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?  And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”  Job 2:3

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines integrity as:

*medically, an unimpaired condition
*soundness
*firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values
*incorruptibility
*the quality or state of being complete or undivided – completeness

Lord, we praise You, for any integrity we have is because of the unimpaired greatness of You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Incorruptible

source – usdailyreview.com

You look at us and see
what we never can
and Your eye upon us holds tighter
than any circumstance can
birthing an integrity
we didn’t know we had
from the unimpaired condition
of being completely in Your sound hand.

No Wrong

“In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.”  Job 1:22

Holy Spirit conviction and correction is different then a spiritual attack, which comes out of no where and leaves us with an over-all “bad” feeling.

Lord, we love You and know You can do no wrong.  When problems arise, may we seek You first, knowing You love us and will warn us of specific sin in our lives and tell us what to do about it. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Blame Less

Job lost everything
in one day

his whole world
fell away

he tore his clothes
he wept, he prayed

but blame on God
he did not lay.
