In This Place

I have come down
from heaven

in order to carry
you home

no long lists of how to’s
or rungs to climb

I give you rest and call you
My own.

You establish Yourself as the way, so the only step I have to take is into Your arms.

“Jacob left Beersheba and traveled toward Haran. At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway.”

“At the top of the stairway stood the LORD, and He said, ‘I am the LORD the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth. They will spread out in all directions – to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. What’s more, I am with you and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.’ “

“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it.’ “.

Genesis 28:10-16

God Almighty Appeared

“Then Jacob said to Joseph, ‘God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, and said to me, “Behold I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make you a multitude of people, and give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.” ‘ ”  Genesis 48:3-4

God still meets with us.

Thank You, Lord, for speaking into our lives.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

As You met
with Jacob

promising to multiply
and give the land

so You meet
with us each day

speaking Your word
Your covenant, Your plan.

God bless you as He meets with you today!

A Certain Mercy

“And may God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved, I am bereaved.”  Genesis 43:14 NKJV

Jacob didn’t know if they would be shown mercy or not.

Thank You, Lord, for Your mercy that we can count on.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

I may not
receive mercy
from a family member
neighbor or friend

but when I ask You
for forgiveness
it is always
what You extend.

God bless you as you receive His mercy today.

“Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the persons of his household, his cattle and all his animals, and all his goods which he had gained in the land of Canaan, and went to a country away from the presence of his brother Jacob.”  Genesis 36:6 NKJV

After Jacob returned, then Esau left.

Thank You, Lord, for always working things out for us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Your plans
are eternal

full of promise
holy divine.

We do not
have to worry

for they’ll happen
at the perfect time.

God bless you as He works out His plans in your life!

And They Wept

“But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.”  Genesis 33:4 NKJV

I wonder if their meeting took them both by surprise.

Thank You, Lord, for transforming our hearts, attitudes and situations. And here’s a simple poem  . . .

I think I know
what I’ll do

and what
I’ll say

but in
the very moment

I want God
to have His way.

God bless you as you meet with others today!

God’s Camp

“So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.”  Genesis 32:1 NKJV
“When Jacob saw them, he said, ‘This is God’s camp.’ ”  Genesis 32:2 NKJV

Soon after this, Jacob found out that his brother Esau was coming to meet him with 400 men.

Thank You, Lord, for never leaving us unprotected or facing any situation alone.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

God sends His angels
out to meet us

to comfort
and protect

and He Himself
is always with us

our Great God
present and perfect.

God bless you as He meets you today!

God Knows

“And you know that with all my might I have served your father.”  Genesis 31:6  NKJV
“Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.”  Genesis 31:7 NKJV

It is possible for us to be wronged, but not hurt by it.

Thank You, Lord, for covering us and keeping us from the harm that is intended.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

You see
our afflictions

and know
what’s being done

and will work
it for our good

and not
for our harm.

God bless you as He keeps afflictions from hurting you today.

Give Me Children!

“Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob, ‘Give me children or else I die!’ ”  Genesis 30:1 NKJV

Sometimes we expect too much from one another.

Thank You, Lord, for being our ultimate first responder.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

We can’t
fix things
the way
God can

but can have
being His feet
and hands.

God bless you as you turn to Him first today!

How Things Are Done

“And Laban said, ‘It must not be done so, in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.’ ”  Genesis 29:26 NKJV

Customs vary from place to place.

Thank You, Lord, for continuing to reveal to us the ways of Your Kingdom.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Though My ways
are not like your ways

and My thoughts
are higher than your own

I will teach
and show you

and make My heart
for you known.

“God bless you as He shows you how things are done in His Kingdom!
