Clothed With Humility

 

Let’s submit
to one another

clothed with
humility

casting all our cares
upon Him

for He cares
for us dearly.

Peaceable

 

Be subject to rulers
obedient

ready for every
good work

speaking evil of no one
peaceable, gentle

showing all the humility
of our Lord.

I can be peaceable for You are with me.

All You Meek

 

Seek the Lord
all you meek

seek righteousness
and humility

for His justice
shall be upheld

toward those who threaten
arrogantly.

Oh the humility
of Christ

Who contains the fullness
of diety

yet came down
as a man

giving Himself unto death
for me.

To Be Ready

“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,
to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.”   Titus 3:1-2

I am listening to this as the November elections draw near.

Lord, as we embrace this scripture for ourselves, we also pray it for those who will be leaders in our country.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

What Good?

What good will come
if we aren’t ready

He Has Humbled Himself

“So it was when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.”  1 Kings 21:27

“And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,”  1 Kings 21:28

“See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me?  Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days, but in the days of his son, I will bring the calamity on his house.”  1 Kings 21:29

Even though Ahab had provoked God many times, a little humility went a long way.

Oh Lord, I long to stay humble before You, so our relationship can grow and deepen.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The Process

What will it take to
humble this stiff heart

a word, a glance, a touch
to soften it enough

to lay low before You
forever bowed at Your Holiness

assured that whatever it takes
is so worth the process.

 

Fifty Shekel Wives

“. . .then the man who lay with her shall give to the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife because he has humbled her; he shall not be permitted to divorce her all his days.” Deuteronomy 22:29

This doesn’t sound exactly like the fairy tale weddings we’ve come to expect.

Lord, thank You for the many lessons on humility that you teach us through marriage. And here’s simple poem . . .

Together For Him

I hear of someone getting married
and wish them the best

many years of joy
of love and tenderness

knowing God has something
even more profound in mind

providing yet another way
for us to be refined.

A Humble Man

“(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)” Numbers 12:3

I love this about Moses. Even this information is humbly put in parenthesis. Moses remains humble even after God says this about him:
“He is faithful in all My house
I speak to him face to face.” Numbers 7-8

Oh Father, please teach us the value of being lowly and humble in a world that thinks so highly of itself. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Humbling Humiliation

Humble and humility are two words
we don’t often hear

but humiliation rings a bell
sure enough, loud and clear

and I think I wouldn’t be
humiliated quite so easily

if I lived a humble life
filled with humility.
