Torn

“Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes.”  2 Chronicles 34:19

Prophetic words and visions have been given about America.

Oh Lord, may we tear away our pride and humble ourselves, weeping before You in the state we find ourselves in.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Now That We’ve Heard

We tear away at our pretense
and weep before You Lord
for You are great and we have wondered
far from Your word.

Oh may we be humbled
by what we’ve just heard
and seek for Your mercy
here upon this earth.

“When He Humbled Himself”

“When he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and things also went well in Judah.” 2 Chronicles 12:12

At the beginning  of the chapter, Rehoboam had established his kingdom, strengthened himself . . .and turned away from God.

Lord, please help me to stay humble when things are going good.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

As I Go

Humble, humble
as I go
let my thoughts, my words
my heart be slow
to rise above
where they should be
resting only in
Your humility.

He Has Humbled Himself

“So it was when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.”  1 Kings 21:27

“And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,”  1 Kings 21:28

“See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me?  Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days, but in the days of his son, I will bring the calamity on his house.”  1 Kings 21:29

Even though Ahab had provoked God many times, a little humility went a long way.

Oh Lord, I long to stay humble before You, so our relationship can grow and deepen.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The Process

What will it take to
humble this stiff heart

a word, a glance, a touch
to soften it enough

to lay low before You
forever bowed at Your Holiness

assured that whatever it takes
is so worth the process.

So He Humbled

“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8:3

There can be God reasons beyond our reasoning.

Thank You, Lord, for knowing what I need to stay lovingly humble and obedient before you. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Allowing This

It’s humbling to be
lovingly led
taken by the hand
and graciously fed
but better for us
in the long run
that pride be wrecked
and overcome.
