Humble Works

“For whoever exalts himself will be abased, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11

God recently used a small act of unknown humbleness to transform a tense situation into an opportunity to work together and love deeper.

Lord, thank You for showing me an example of what You can do when my heart is humble. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Lowly and Blessed

A heart that lifts itself
can’t see down beneath

all the things God would choose
lie piled at the feet.

But when a heart is lowly
and considering itself less

God’s every move surprises
creating joy and blessedness.

A Humble Man

“(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)” Numbers 12:3

I love this about Moses. Even this information is humbly put in parenthesis. Moses remains humble even after God says this about him:
“He is faithful in all My house
I speak to him face to face.” Numbers 7-8

Oh Father, please teach us the value of being lowly and humble in a world that thinks so highly of itself. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Humbling Humiliation

Humble and humility are two words
we don’t often hear

but humiliation rings a bell
sure enough, loud and clear

and I think I wouldn’t be
humiliated quite so easily

if I lived a humble life
filled with humility.

Who’s The Greatest?

“Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 18:4

Little children are humble in how they trust and believe, not ashamed to ask questions and learn from others . . .completely unassuming.

O Lord, help me  trust and believe more and more in You who are the greatest, instead of desiring to be great myself.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

Kingdom Equations

a little humility > grown-up pride
infant trust > full blown cynicism
child like faith > man sized doubts
the kingdom of heaven > anything we’ve known

Do you have a kingdom equation to add?

How Long To Humble?

“How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me?”  Exodus 10:3

The above question was asked of Pharaoh.  God surely knew the answer.  Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened and a plague of locusts invaded Egypt, eating everything in sight.

Oh Jesus, please help keep me humble today so I don’t let self-importance destroy my relationship with You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Arrogance Remedy

Help me not think
too much about what I do
but concentrate instead
on giving praise and glory to You.
