A Covering

I will be a covering
over all the glory
over all
the holiness

a cloud by day
a flame by night
your shade, your refuge
your rest.

Jesus establishes my covering.

“. . .then the LORD will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a covering. And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.” Isaiah 4:5,6 NKJV

Take Off Your Shoes

“So He said, ‘No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come’. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, ‘What does my Lord say to His servant’?” Joshua 5:14
“Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, ‘Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy’. And Joshua did so.” Joshua 5:15

I’m not sure if Joshua was expecting this to be the first thing the Lord would say to Him.

Lord, we desire to understand more about Your holiness. Please show us what attitude, behavior or habit we need to take off – as well as our shoes – when we come into Your presence and seek to hear Your voice. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Standing Holy

As I come into Your presence, Lord
to hear what You have to say

You show me I can’t enter in
just any old way

but must strip myself of the shoes I wear
that carry me around in pride

and any other lofty thing
that I harbor deep inside.

For He Is Holy

” For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore sanctify yourselves and you shall be holy for I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44

We can’t be holy apart from God.

Thank You, Lord, for being a Holy God who makes a way for us to be holy with You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Holy Human

His Holiness
gives us freedom
from our humanness
while still contained
in all its frailties.

“It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, that you may distinguish between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean.” Leviticus 10:9-10

Like peeking into the dishwasher, wondering if the dishes are clean or not, I peek into my heart to see what there is of Holy You.

Lord, thank You for making clean what was once not, and bringing holiness into even the most ordinary of lives. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Holy Spirit Remodel

Please come, Lord
and cleanse these thoughts
I think

and make my heart
a pure place
for You to always be.

“You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it . . . . HOLINESS TO THE LORD.  So it shall be on Aaron’s forehead that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel hallow in all their holy gifts, and it shall always be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.”  Esodus 28:36,38

When my daughter does her best – an act of kindness, writing, art work – it is cause for celebration. Joy. Then is not the time to correct her mistakes or urge her to do more.

Jesus, thank You for taking me the way I am and making me holy before You.  Here’s a simple poem . . .

Bearing Iniquity

Could You have really planned
for me to be holy?
My best attempts are tainted
a far cry away,

but You send Yourself
all Holiness before me,
and what I can’t attain to
You bear along the way.
