Overcome Evil With Good

 

Lord, let me not be
overcome with evil

but overcome evil
with good

associating with
the humble

not thinking more of me
than I should.

Because You are with me, I can overcome evil with good.

To Know Me

 

I will give you wisdom
to know Me

and a heart
to understand

what is evil
what is good

blessings
from My hand.

You establish my understanding of how to do good.

“For My people are foolish, they have not known Me. They are silly children, and they have no understanding . They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.” Jeremiah 4:22 NKJV

Nothing Wicked

 

 

You cannot sympathize
with evil
or give wickedness
a place

but keep your eyes
upon Me
to walk
in My ways.

A laid down life can’t abide with wickedness.

“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes. My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.” Psalm 101:3,6,7 NKJV

Soft Hearts

 

“And He said to them, ‘Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?’  But they kept silent.”  Mark 3:4 NKJV

Matthew 3:5 tells us Jesus was grieved by their silence, by the hardness of their hearts.

Thank You, Lord, for softening my heart as I surrender it to You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Is it lawful to do good or evil
to save life or to kill?

The answer seems so obvious
but You ask me still

because my heart can harden
and my love become nil

oh keep me forever softened
to Your mercy and Your will.

Imitating

“Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good.” 3 John vs 11 NKJV

The “fight fire with fire” rule doesn’t apply to evil.

Thank You, Jesus, for Your great goodness that overcomes evil.  And here’s a simple poem  . . .

Evil’s a foot
and running rampant
there’s only one thing
that will trip it up

living lives surrendered
to our Good Shepherd
makes evil recoil
and slink on off.

“That I May Not Cause Pain”

“And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!”  So God granted him what he requested.”  1 Chronicles 4:10

Evil can cause pain.

Lord, deliver us from evil so that we are not the cause of pain in each others’ lives. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Delivered to Deliver

So much pain
in the world today
physically and mentally
the anguish tears away.

Oh let us not add
to this suffering
but bring healing and deliverance
in the name of our King.

Good Wise

“For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.” Romans 16:19

I have seen the evil planned for me not come about as I continued to do what God asked me to do.

Lord, we ask for the wisdom to know what is truly good in Your eyes and how to go about it today. Please deliver us from evil and the temptation to be wise concerning it. And here’s a simple poem . . .

What Is Good

There is a wisdom
in knowing
what is good
and then setting
ourselves to it
without planning evil
for the evil
that threatens.

Overcome Evil

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

I always get a little shaky when confronting evil. There is instantly the temptation to overcome it with anger or submit to it in fear.

Lord, we thank You for Your goodness in us that can overcome all evil, whether it be our own or from an outside source. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Dissolved

Evil drops in like a bomb
ready to explode

so we tend to tiptoe around it
and put our lives on hold

but we can stand in His righteousness
and let His goodness flow

watching what happens to evil
when the Holy Spirit flows.

No Reason For Death

“And he said to them the third time, ‘Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go’.” Luke 23:22

No, there wouldn’t be any reason for death in the Creator of Life itself.

We thank You and praise You, Jesus, for facing down the unreasonableness of death and evil for us. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Jesus Reasons

There was no reason
for death in Him

no evil
had He done

only obeying
His Father’s orders

back to the vineyard
He had come.
