A Present Tense God

“The LORD opens the eyes of the
The LORD raises those who are
bowed down;
The LORD loves the righteous.
The LORD watches over the
He relieves the fatherless and widow . . .”  Psalm 146:8-9

I really loved all the present tense verbs used in this portion of scripture.

Thank You, Lord, for all You are doing right now, for so many.  And here is a simple poem . . .

His Goodness On Display

I see Your goodness to me
like the first star in the sky

I am blessed and humbled
then You ask me to multiply

my experience times a billion
of peopled Milky Ways

to imagine Your lovingkindness
spread out on display.

“You Open Your Hand”

“The LORD upholds all who fall,
And raises up all those who are
bowed down.
The eyes of all look expectantly to
And You give them their food in
due season.
You open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living
thing.”    Psalm 145:14-16

When I’m typing at the computer and Aubrey is close by, she reaches her hand out for me to touch with mine, desiring to stay connected.

Lord, we thank You for Your open hand policy with us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Palms of Grace

His open hand upholds us
whenever we do fall
and is sure to lift us when
we’re weighed down by it all.

Our eyes look expectantly
to His blood streaked face
our desires satisfied by His
pierced palms of salvation grace.

Someone To Care

“Look on my right hand and see,
For there is no one who
acknowledges me;
Refuge has failed me;
No one cares for my soul.”  Psalm 142:4

David was running for His life and hiding out in caves.

Lord, thank You for sending people who cared about my soul when I was running from life and hiding in caves of addiction.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

He Cares

We know that You
are with us

and that
You’ll never leave

but also
understand about

our basic
human needs.

It Shall Be A Kindness

“Let the righteous strike me;
It shall be a kindness.
And let him reprove me;
It shall be as excellent oil;
Let my head not refuse it.”  Psalm 141:5

Ben Nelson – http://anotherredletterday.wordpress.com – did a great series on righteous judgement.

Lord, help me to not run away from righteous reproof.   And here’s a simple poem . . .

Righteous Reproof

Oh Lord let me be
secure enough in You

to understand the benefit
of righteous reproof

to let it do the work
that it was sent to

to be a kindness
that I mustn’t refuse.

“The Night Shall Be Light”

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall
fall on me,
Even the night shall be light about
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide
from You,
But the night shines as the day,
The darkness and the light are both
alike to You.
‘ ”  Psalm 139:11-12

From Jesus’ darkest hours came our brightest hope.

Lord, help me to see You in the dark.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Divine Light

I wonder if the tomb
shown bright

once it was
sealed tight

and if my
darkest times

are really
the most divine.

That Which Concerns Me

“Though I walk in the midst of
trouble, You will revive me.
You will stretch out Your hand . . .
and Your right hand will save me.
The LORD will perfect that which

concerns me . . .”  Psalm 138:7-8

I have this habit of reading of someone else’s problems and then adopting them as my own.

Lord, thank You for knowing all of my issues and exactly how to address them.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

I Will See To It

I will perfect
that which concerns you

I will see to
all that you do

though at times
it may be painful

I will never fail
nor abandon you.

Remembering With Mercy

“Who remembered us in our lowly state
For His mercy endures forever.”  Psalm 136:23

Being remembered is a blessing.

Lord, thank You for remembering us with mercy when we need it most.  And here is a simple poem . . .

You Remember

When I have fallen
and am feeling
oh so

You remember me
with mercy

Standing By Night

“Behold, bless the LORD,
all you servants of the LORD,
Who by night stand in the house of
the LORD!
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
And bless the LORD.”   Psalm 134:1-2

I tend to pace whenever I have to stand . ..or I rock back and forth.

Lord, teach me to stand when , where , and how You want me to.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

To Stand

Lord, give us strength
to stand in the night

when we are weary
of this life

to lift our hands
and give You praise

to bless You, Lord
forever and always.

There Is Forgiveness

“If You, LORD, should mark
O LORD, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You;
That You may be feared.”  Psalm 130:3-4

I’m in awe of God’s power to forgive.

Lord, please teach us to be powerfully forgiving.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Powerful Enough

Man-made gods
don’t forgive
and people can
forget to

but our God
who created all
is powerful
enough to.

The Plowers

“Many a time they have afflicted me
from my youth;
Yet they have not prevailed against
The plowers plowed on my back;
They made their furrows long.”
Psalm 129:2-3

The farmers here have begun making long furrows.

Lord, help us trust our deep afflicted places to you, that You may plant good in them.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

He Prevails

From our youth
they have afflicted

yet somehow
they have failed

though pushed down
and plowed long

His will for us
