My Commandments

 

I will teach you
the difference

between what’s from men
and what’s from Me

for traditions
snare and entangle

but My commandments
set you free.

You establish Your commandments to Me.

“And He said to them, ‘All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.’ ” Mark 7:9 NKJV

Traditions

 

“For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men . . .”  Mark 7:8 NKJV

Traditions can seem like commandments.

Thank You, Lord, for Your commandments which take precedence over all.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

There are laws
we must adhere to

there are rules
we need apply

but Your commandments
take precedence

even if traditions
get put aside.

Loving God

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”  1 John 5:3 NKJV

The word “commandment”  just sounds heavy.

Thank You, Lord, for loving us with Your commandments and helping us keep them.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Loving You
is when we do
what You
tell us to

not a burden
not a pain
just Love having
His perfect way.

Not A Futile Thing

“Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe – all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 32:46
“For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.” Deuteronomy 32:47

Even though God had told Moses the people would turn away, he never stopped encouraging them to keep His commandments.

Thank You for the life You give us through Your Living Word . . .the Bible and Your Son. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Our Life

It is not a futile thing
to praise and worship our King
it is not a waste of time
to read the Bible’s every verse and line
for it is our life
filled with the power of Christ
our sustenance, our grace
our map for seeing His face.

The Faithful God

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him, and keep His commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9

The God who was faithful and merciful to Israel then is still faithful and merciful to her now. And to us as well.

O Lord, we desire to love You with all our hearts, minds, souls and strength today. And here’s a simple poem . . .

None Like Him

For what God
is like our God
forever faithful
forever true
able to
keep promises
full of love
and mercy too.

For Our Good Always

“And the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day.” Deuteronomy6:24

Doing things God’s way leads to life for the children of Israel. For us too.

He Knows Why

As we are where we are
and begin to wonder why

help us remember, Lord
that it’s for us You died

not for Your own good
but for ours, you sacrificed

and laid down once and for all
so that we might have eternal life.
