A Way Out

Though destruction
be prophesied against you

it can yet
be changed

if you would
listen to Me

and do what
I say.

You establish a way out for me when I turn to You.

“Repent now everyone of his evil ways and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers forever and ever.” Jeremiah 25:5 NKJV

An Everywhere God

“But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.”  Jonah 1:3 NKJV

Jonah found out he couldn’t really flee God’s presence.

Thank You, God, for being everywhere . . .even the places where I go to hide.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

How could You ask
me to do this?
With my track record
I’d best just hide.

It’s true
I could find
someone better
but then how could I
change you, inside?

God bless you and all the places He finds you today!

Change

“Because they do not change
therefore they do not fear God.”  Psalms 55:19

Change and fear often go together.

Lord, please change me today and tomorrow and then again, and more and more.   And here’s a simple poem . . .

Inside Israel – “Why Can’t Change Be, Well, Easier?” Part 2

Hi and welcome to this Sunday’s look inside Israel, through the eyes and heart of our sis in Jerusalem, J!  This is the second half of the letter I posted last Sunday. God bless you and thank you as you read and pray for Israel, J and her family!  Now, here’s J . . .

Although the weather is still oppressively hot, there is a sure feeling of changing season in the air.  The seasons changing in nature ALWAYS speak to me of God’s seasons and His faithfulness.  Yesterday I saw birds flocking for the first time since they arrived in the Spring.  But what lies ahead of this small country in the season that approaches?  God knows.  To the rest of us it is only a question.  I’m sure that you know of the changes in Egypt, Syria and Lebanon.  Suddenly, all of the chatter about war with Iran, (going on for years now!) seems to be more then just chatter.  ‘Something’ has changed.  What is it?  I don’t know.  It is like the wind…where IS its source?  Yes, recently there is a sudden pressure on the citizens to get our gas masks renewed and just as suddenly, new and remarkably easy to use distribution centers have opened all around.  Also ‘suddenly’, we had a new emergency government ‘sms (cell phone) message system’ inaugurated and checked with messages going to all citizens in 4 languages…for the first time since we are here, one of those languages is also English!  – It is awfully nice to have something ‘easy’ happen for a change (English! It will always be my ‘mother tongue I guess)!  These and other subtle preparations are taking place ever so quietly, but none the less, they are taking place.  And other trials rear their heads; the price of government subsidized bread rose a whopping 6% this week!  That was immediately followed by an announcement that we needed to be prepared for a major rise in food prices…17% between now and the end of the fall feasts (end of Sept-beginning of Oct).  That would include fruit and vegetables, milk products, eggs, chicken, and grains.  Well…there you have our local diet!  HOWEVER…we were warned that the prices may rise as much as FIFTY PERCENT before the end of the year!  No one really said ANYTHING!  We are just too much in shock.  Belt tightening time.  Again.  And fires…there have been quite a rash of fires…over 1,000!  They were intentionally set (by Arabs).  On the other hand, a new phenomenon has arisen; there have been several awful attacks upon Arabs by Jews.  This just ISN’T done.  It goes against the heart of the people…the ethics of the religious foundation that the nation stands upon…and it shocks the people.  ASSUR LANU!  (This is forbidden to us!)
Change…instability at the foundations.  I am SO THANKFUL that my foundation is The Lord Yeshua h’Meshiach, Jesus Christ, in whom I stand, but not me only!  The very plans for all that lies ahead are also founded in Him!  NOTHING takes Him by surprise!
Personally, we are smack in the middle of great pressure and change as our oldest daughter and family are in the final stages of moving out of their house to our apartment before their move to America for 5 years.  L  The movers are to come and pack their shipment on the 28th (our Granddaughter turns 7 on the 27th…same day school begins.  The children plan to go to school for the week or two).  Then they will move in with us for about 2 weeks until they leave.  We are still short one bed…and…we have one bathroom…so…I am praying for grace peace, joy, unity in Him, LOVE and for Him to reign in our midst for His glory!  THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!
Our younger daughter, who was just married on the 20th of June, is in Orange City California now, however we have not heard from her in some time and I find a great need to battle for my soul to STAND FIRM in the command; “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Jn 14:27 – “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6,7
He KNOWS where they are, and I have been praying for Him to “pursue them unto Himself”, so there just IS NO PLACE for fear and worry.  Boy, we just don’t get a break in this school of faith, do we?  May we all mature into the gold and precious jewels that He desires!
THANK YOU for your love, your grace and mercy with me, and your prayers for our nation, people and even our family.  Lovingly, your sis (please remember to NOT use our names when you write to us?  THANKS!)

They Glorified God

“But they were hearing only, ‘He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy’.”
“And they glorified God in me.”  Galatians 1:23-24

Those in Christ glorified God.  They knew Paul didn’t change by going to the gym and reading the latest self-help book.

Lord, we thank, praise, worship and glorify You, the One who makes all the difference in our lives.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Re-done

I check the mirror
because I don’t feel the same

You’ve brought about in me
an everlasting change

my heart, mind and soul
taken apart and re-done

all for the glory
of Christ the Risen Son.

I was thinking if any of you have a link you could share to your salvation story and wouldn’t mind sharing it here in the comments, it would be wonderful . . .and God glorifying. 🙂  Or, just share your story in the comments, that would work too! Thank you!

Inside Israel – Questions from Jerusalem

Hello and welcome to this Sunday’s look inside Israel. Today J brings us an important message to think and pray about. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and pray for J, her family and her and His nation, Israel. Now, here’s J . . .

Loving greetings in The wonderful Name of Yeshua h’Meshiach, the King. May He be blessed and glorified and may you be blessed!

‘Change’: The key word of the Obama era. When I was young I liked change…I was restless, rebellious and angry. When The Lord came into my life, He brought such a deep ‘Peace’ and told me that ‘I’ was no longer ‘in control’…He was. I began to find contentment in what ever place He put me: It is The Lord! As I grew older I also found that I was less and less comfortable with change. I don’t WANT to change the way the furniture is in a room…didn’t I already find the ‘best’ way to put it? I don’t WANT to change brands…I LIKE that one. I don’t WANT to move (shivers!) if, God forbid, the rent should be raised. I’m NOT saying ‘change’ is bad…but is ‘change’ good? Does ‘change’ itself have a ‘value’?
I’ve had to ask these questions a lot lately as Israel has been caught up in the wave of social unrest that (I am convinced that it is NOT ‘spontaneous’!) has been sweeping our region of the world. Hundreds of thousands are demonstrating in the streets. There is the ongoing Doctor’s strike. Tent cities are rapidly growing around the country to protest housing costs. Protests are taking place against the rising cost of food, of gasoline, of all basic living expenses. There is a Mother’s protest against the high cost of school. There is the religious protest ongoing against the desecration of the Shabat by the opening of a public parking lot. There are demonstrations for the release of our captive soldier Gilad Shalit. It is a ‘belegan’ right now! Last nights estimates of 200,000 are unsettling to the government, already plagued by pressure to give up land for an elusive ‘peace’. Add to this the fact that the temperatures have been soaring daily into the high 30s (Celsius) (90s-100s Fahrenheit) …what a MESS!
There definitely is a ‘change’ in the air. But I recognize the restless, rebellious and angry spirit that used to characterize me, and it has had me watching. Where did it arise from? There are lots of answers; Yes, there is a real financial problem here as growing numbers of people can’t make ends meet, while we hear that the economy is one of the strongest in the world, and while we see a small number of shockingly wealthy people getting wealthier. We DEFINITELY see the political opposition drooling with delight while hurling blame at the Netanyahu government for problems that have been escalating for many years before he took office, things way beyond his control to ‘fix’. We see Obama ‘backing off’ and watching quietly from the wings. Why aren’t we hearing his almost constant ‘comments’ all of the sudden? We see ‘facebook’, ‘twitter’ and the like…hum. What IS this phenomena? This computer fixation that so inspires and inflames? What is all of this power and where is it coming from? It topples governments and sets countries and passions aflame. I remember a book back when I was in College called ‘The Media is the Message’. Here is a quick synopsis:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“The medium is the message” is a phrase coined by Marshall McLuhan meaning that the form of a medium embeds itself in the message, creating a symbiotic relationship by which the medium influences how the message is perceived.
The phrase was introduced in his most widely known book, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, published in 1964.[1] McLuhan proposes that a medium itself, not the content it carries, should be the focus of study. He said that a medium affects the society in which it plays a role not only by the content delivered over the medium, but also by the characteristics of the medium itself.
McLuhan frequently punned on the word “message” changing it to “mass age”, “mess age”, and “massage”; a later book, The Medium is the Massage was originally to be titled The Medium is the Message, but McLuhan preferred the new title which is said to have been a printing error.
I know that sounds rather philosophical. It was a philosophy book trying to grapple with the idea of the powerful role that the media played, NOT in just reporting, but in influencing events. That was BEFORE computers, ipods, blackberries, facebook etc.
“In the beginning was The Word, and The Word was with God and The Word was GOD”! GOD! Who does not change…Who is the same, yesterday, today and forever, steadfast and True, Who spoke and the worlds were created! Heaven and earth will pass away but The Word of The Lord abides forever.
These are just a few scriptures that pop quickly into my mind and give me peace in the midst of what I am seeing. I wrote last week that ‘no one wants to destabilize the government here’, but that was not true. There are many who do, both within and without the country, and they have been inspired by seeing the rapid downfall of formerly strong governments around us (particularly Mubarak of Egypt).
I am too small a fish in the pond to have enough chutzpah to present ‘answers’, but I do know that my spirit is unsettled about the source of all of this and I would like to ask those of you who pray for Israel to be aware that there is something of a different nature afoot that appears dangerous. It is clothed in the ‘finery’ of ‘social justice’…sort of like ‘peace clothing’, it has a noble name…but it’s purpose and substance and (more importantly) it’s source??
Ok. I want to mail this before we leave for the hospital where my husband has to do a thallium stress test after his heart attack, so that he can be okayed for archery again. God bless each of you! I am so very thankful for the body worldwide. Thank you for praying for Israel and thank you for praying for our family. We have some unspoken ongoing critical needs and your prayers are so valuable. Thank you for your faithfulness! I send MUCH love. Your sis here.

We Change, God Doesn’t

“And the younger of them said to his father, “Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me . . .” Luke 15:12
“I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” Luke 15:18-19

There was a change in the son from when he first came to his father asking for his inheritance and the next time he came asking for a job.
But the father’s heart for his son, it never changed.

Thank You, Lord, for Your unconditional and unchanging love, for being present and merciful, and forever willing to listen when we come to You and ask. And here’s a simple poem . . .

He Gives

Sometimes I come
miffed and full of myself

other times emptied
and crying out loud

and each time You’re there
with just what I need

be it a robe and a ring
or a crown and a tree.

Inside Israel – Back On Line

Hello and God bless you for joining me today for a look inside Israel. J, a Jewish believer in Jesus, living in Jerusalem, sends us a thankful e-mail and shares about her Yeshua, her life in His care, and her and His nation, Israel. Thank you so much for caring, reading and praying! And now here’s J . . .

I am not sure how to begin this email. It has been so long since I wrote, but daily I have wanted to.
I will begin the best way possible. I greet you, lovingly, in The precious Name of Yeshua h’Meshiach.
May HE be blessed, and may we, as His body, be blessed and encouraged in one another. I have needed
encouragement during this time and HE and His body is where it comes from!

While events in our region, and our own lives, swirl around us at a fierce pace, I have been given so much
opportunity to prove that Yeshua, Jesus, truly IS able to keep our hearts and minds at perfect peace. He is
just so perfectly faithful! That does NOT mean that ‘the path’ has been ‘easy’, nor does it mean that I have
always felt that peace and soundness, because I haven’t, but, I am learning to return to that place of peace more
quickly and more steadily…to forget that which is behind and to press on to HIS calling… (loosely from Phil 3)

Tomorrow will be a month since my husband’s heart attack and we understand more now then we did at the beginning.
It was a serious heart attack and there was a lot of damage done to the heart. We saw his cardiologist for the first time
this past week and he did a second eko cardiogram, which was only slightly improved, however my husband is feeling well
and was able to return to work yesterday, and begin driving today. This is now FOUR months that his shop has been closed
(3 months following the broken hip and now another) and he was really looking forward to returning. He is now going to
heart rehabilitation 4 mornings per week and enjoying it, but who wouldn’t…a state of the art gym with paid for, mostly,
by the health fund; a real blessing! He was encouraged to take some additional therapy that is not covered and it was
explained to us that it is well worth it because of his age (relatively young, nice to hear!), his very good overall
physical condition and the seriousness of the damage, it is worth it to maximize his recovery. He is to take physical
therapy for a year…as well as a PILE of medications.

Thank you all SO much for your prayers!

I have just finished reading the books of Jeremiah and Luke, and am now in Ezekiel and John and I am daily breathless to
see how the scriptures speak to my daily life and the events in our region and the world. My husband and I took our first
drive today into the hills surrounding Jerusalem and sat on a lovely quiet mountain top overlooking the city. When we first
moved here we had often come to this area which are dotted with natural springs that had been enclosed for purposes of
both drinking water and either mikvas (ritual Jewish cleansing sites) or baptismal sites in ancient times. There was a sign
near them reading ‘Danger, deep water, danger of drowning’…however they were all dry as a bone. The continuing drought
here is a major concern following yet another very dry winter…is this the 7th or 8th already? The price of water (we pay for
water to the house) has gone up dramatically, but, we all know, that only affects the poor…to the wealthy it is not a problem.
I listen to the prophets and lift my heart in prayer. ‘Open my ears, Lord.’ That has been a major concern to me through this
time of upheaval here…no…not water…but the opening of my ears. ‘HOW TO PRAY into all of this??’ Oh yes, I pray and I do
get all of the prayer letters that tell us what we should be praying, and how we should be praying, but my spirit does not bare
witness that I have yet found God’s Heart in the matter! So I pray for salvation of those in the midst of rebellions…on both
sides…KNOWING that, of course this is His will, His general will…but…there is a discomfort in my heart that I am still NOT
hearing concern…and I pray for things brought up by my brothers and sisters here and around the world…but…Lord? I have
read letters telling of wonderful miracles in the midst…some I believe and some I feel, sadly, are not truthful. And I speak to
the people around me about the Words of The Lord through the prophets (you know…my bus goes down ‘Prophet’s street’, but
what good is a name if we do not listen?) and some listen and some don’t…

By now I think that many other countries around the world are beginning to understand that the problem is that there just are
no groups prepared to step in and govern, so a vacuum is left when the ruler is overthrown…and into that vacuum your choice
is tribal leaders, intellectuals, Islamics. It is way too big for me, and God knows. We watch as country after country is destabilized
in the name of ‘democracy’…which is an alien idea here…one alien to the cultures that go back to the beginning of time, and one
that may not be able to be learned and applied ‘overnight’. Yes…’change’ has become a sacred word as all that truly IS ‘Sacred’ is
scoffed at. “The Lord is good and a stronghold in the day of trouble…and He knows all those who put their trust in Him.”

It is time for me to get ready to go to our fellowship, so I will close this first email in weeks. Our new Grandson, Asher, is a
blessing and a joy! Thank you for continuing to pray for our daughter to be emotionally healthy and not to experience a repeat
of the severe post postpartum depression that she did last time. Actually…THANK YOU for keeping our whole family in prayer!

And thank you for not forgetting me (us). I do not forget you. I am awfully tired…even weary, but I am safe in Him!
Lovingly, your sis

More Frightening

“Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.”

Shouldn’t it have been more frightening to see the man still demon possessed?

Oh Lord, help me embrace the changes that You bring more than the pain I’m accustomed to. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Consider

Help me accept change
for what it is

and not cling to
my painful past

to exchange what I’ve known
for the hope of what will be

a life made different
joy in You that lasts.

Making disciples for Christ

We are disciples of Christ, making disciples for Him in every nation (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV)
