Let The Lord Judge

“Therefore I have not sinned against you, but you wronged me by fighting against me. May the Lord, the Judge, render judgment this day between the children of Israel and the people of Ammon.” Judges 11:27

Community #1 is attacked by Community #2. Community #1 defends itself while Community #2 cries out that they’ve been wronged and the world agrees. Sounds familiar. Yes, let the Lord judge.

Lord, we thank You that You see exactly what’s going on when matters get complicated and twisted, when nothing is as it seems . . .when good becomes evil and evil becomes good. And here’s a simple poem . . .

One Day

Someone says they’ve been wronged
and another says they had a right
and the Lord God looks
upon this fractured sight
where nothing is
as it is proclaimed
knowing one day every knee will bow
at the mention of His name.

What God Can’t Endure

“So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.” Judges 10:16

Hard-heartedness is a human condition.

Oh Lord, we desire compassionate hearts and lives that respond to the misery of others. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Taking In Misery

Bring my heart
to look upon
those in misery
this day
that it might break
and turn to You
embracing their pain
as I pray.

How to Lead . . .Trees

“The trees once went forth to anoint a king over them.
And they said to the olive tree,
‘Reign over us!’
But the olive tree said to them,
‘Should I cease giving my oil,
with which they honor God and men,
And go to sway over trees’?” Judge 9:8-9

Good leaders desire to lead people, not to hold sway over them.

Lord, we pray for You to raise up leaders among us who lead by serving You. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Eyes on Him

So hard
for leaders
with power
and influence
to keep
their eyes
off of

Who Shall Rule?

“Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, ‘Rule over us, both you and your son, and your grandson also; for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian’.” Judges 8:22
“But Gideon said to them, ‘I will not rule over you, nor shall my son rule over you; the Lord shall rule over you’.” Judges 8:23

Even though they might forget, rulers have a Ruler too.

Lord, while we may be governed by a variety of people, it is You who we desire to rule over our hearts and minds and lives. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Mindful Of

The Lord shall
rule over us

by His truth
and love

no iron fist
is needed but

His Holy Spirit
to be mindful of.

Strength To Worship

“And it happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, ‘Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand’.” Judges 7:9
“But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant” Judges 7:10
“and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” Judges 7:11
“And so it was when Gideon heard . . .that he worshiped.” Judges 7:15

Worshiping God strengthens us and strengthened in Him, we worship.

Lord, we thank You for always knowing when we need an extra dose of assurance that You really are all You say You are, and will do all You say You will do. And here’s a simple poem . . .

If You Are Afraid

But if you are afraid
I will not condemn you
but show Myself strong
to you once again

so Your hand is strengthened
and Your heart can worship
knowing I am with you
forever without end.

Who Are You?

“And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, ‘The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor’.” Judges 6:12

The true reality about who we are is in how God sees us.

Oh Lord, I desire to listen to who You say I am today and to do what You want me to do. And here’s a simple poem . . .

You Are More

Gideon was called
a mighty man of valor
while he hid and threshed wheat
on a winepress floor.

We may all be the least
in our fathers’ houses
until He comes in
and we’re made into more.

Full Strength

“When leaders lead in Israel
when the people willingly offer themselves
Bless the Lord.” Judges 5:2
” . . .let those who love Him be like the sun
when it comes out in full strength.” Judges 5:31

We have an astonishing amount of potential lying within us because of Jesus.

According to Your time, Lord, we desire to shine with Your strength and light as we willingly offer ourselves to You and lead others to do so as well. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Our Leader Shines Through

As our Jesus leads
we willingly offer
ourselves to Him
and follow.

Brighter than the sun
His light pierces
filling what once
was hollow.

Will You Go Too?

” . . .Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, ‘Go and deploy troops at mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun;” Judges 4:6
“and against you I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude at the River Kishon; and I will deliver them into you hand’?” Judges 4:7
“And Barak said to her, ‘If you will go with me, then I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go’.” Judges 4:8
“‘I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.’ Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.” Judges 4:9

Barak was more concerned with who he’d have with him than who would get the credit.

Oh Lord, we desire to go where You go today, for the sake of Your glory. And here’s a simple poem . . .

To God

Don’t want to be afraid, Lord
to go out on my own

nor do I want to hog the work
for fear of being lesser known

so let me always defer to others
and applaud their talents and gifts

giving You all the glory
Your name to forever lift.

A Deliverer

“So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and Asherahs.” Judges 3:7
“Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.” Judges 3:8
“When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.” Judges 3:9

God has raised up a deliverer for us all in His Son, Jesus.

Lord, no matter where or to what depths our sin has taken us, let us cry out to You now and be saved. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Cry Out To Jesus

I kept falling farther
and farther down the stairs

no sense trying to climb out
I couldn’t get up from there

every move sunk me deeper
and deeper into despair

until I cried out to Jesus
and He became my answer and my prayer.

Why Have You Done This?

“I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you’.” Judges 2:1
“And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this’?” Judges 2:2

Why indeed? I have nothing – no good reasons or excuses – as I come before Him.

Lord, please forgive me for not always walking in obedience to You. I desire to not compromise You in anyway nor accept anything into my life that You don’t want there. And here’s a simple poem . . .

No Other

I remember what You said to me
then doubt I rightly heard

and it’s a dangerous game I play
with such a Holy word

not that You won’t forgive me
not that mercy doesn’t abound

but the thought that I have grieved You
brings me face down on the ground.
