Love Fulfilled

God desires us
to love

to live in wonder
and awe

then gives us
His Son Jesus

the Great Fulfiller of
it all.

*********

You establish the fulfillment of love.

“Oh that their hearts would be inclined to fear Me and keep My commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever.” Deuteronomy 5:29 NIV

Wanting More

“And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph – to Ephraim and Manasseh – saying, ‘You are a great people and have great power; you shall not have one lot only, (Joshua 17:17)
but the mountain country shall be yours. Although it is wooded, you shall cut it down, and its farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites though they have iron chariots and are strong’.” (Joshua 17:18)

The children of Joseph were wanting more than one lot and portion of land. They just might not have expected their “more” to bring with it the challenges it did.

Lord, as I seek more of You, let me not be intimidated by the work and challenges it brings. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Blessed With Him

We are blessed
in His presence
where we’re closest
to His heart
so we might find
in life’s hard moments
that we are blessed
most of all.

This Hour

“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.” John 12:27
“Father, glorify Your name.” John 12:28

Not all of our lives are peaches and cream. We each have troubled areas.

Lord, I desire to change my prayer from ‘save me from this’ to ‘glorify Your name’. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Outshine

During darkest hours
hearts sway
but His glory outshines
being saved
and how that works
may not be
the same for you
as it is for me.

Owning It

“And many more believed because of His own word.” John 4:41
“Then they said to the woman, ‘Now we believe, not because of what you said for we have heard for ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world’.” John 4:42

We’ve seen giraffes on t.v. and know they are tall. Seeing them close up at the zoo makes that fact more personally real.

Lord, we thank You for the testimony of others and for giving us each a testimony of our own. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Testimonies

We hear and believe
by their testimony
and our faith
takes wing.
Then Jesus comes
to us personally
and our faith
now sings.

Immeasurable Spirit

“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the spirit by measure.” John 3:34

When I cook, I have to measure the ingredients. When I add gas, oil or coolant to the car, I have to measure too.

Lord, we thank You that You don’t give Your Spirit out in teaspoons or 1/4 cups, but let it flow without measure. And here’s a simple poem . . .

All Out

God pours Himself out
without limit or measure
filling us with
His Spirit today
so we can walk forth
sure of His power
for He doesn’t skimp
or fill us half way.

Do It!

“His mother said to the servants, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it’.” John 2:5

Servants do as they are told.

O Lord, I desire to be a faithful, joyful servant of Yours. And here’s a simple poem . . .

The Servants Knew

Just servants at the party
there to wait on guests

no one paid them much attention
they went about their business

and although they didn’t know Him
they did want He asked them to

and saw the wonder of a miracle
and God’s glory shining through.

Through Jesus

“For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17

The law was needed . . .was necessary . . .we had to have it.

Thank You God, for fulfilling the law for us with the grace and truth of Jesus. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Colored In Truth

It’s there to do
in hard black and white
but my heart just fades
and slips away

until You color in
with the truth of Your love
and get my heart skipping
to the beat of Your grace.

Face to Face

“Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.
But since then there has not risen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face . . .” Deuteronomy 34:9-10

What astonishing lengths God went to for His people Israel . . .and for us.

O Lord, I pray for you to raise up prophets today, who will know You and speak as You command, causing many to be turned back to You at this time. And here is a simple poem . . .

Seeing His Face

Face to face, Moses met You
and You talked, heart to heart

about Your plans for Your people
from which they’d struggle not to part

how they’d be a nation born of God
where You would set Your love

how unto them You’d send a Savior
for the whole world to see the face of.

This is the last Deuteronomy post! Tomorrow I’ll switch back to the New Testament, the Gospel According to John. Thank you so much for coming along with me through the Bible!

Happy Are You

“Happy are you, O Israel:
Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,
The shield of your help
And the sword of your majesty!” Deuteronomy 33:29

We might watch a movie or read a book about a brave person saving someone of nobility. But how many stories have we read of the poor and downtrodden being saved by a King?

Thank You, Father, for saving Your people Israel and for sending us all a Savior King through them. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Who Is Like You?

We look back and perhaps think
it was no big thing
that Israel entered into a covenant
with their Lord God Almighty

but never before
had such a thing been done
and now we can too
through Jesus Christ His Son.

Not A Futile Thing

“Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe – all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 32:46
“For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.” Deuteronomy 32:47

Even though God had told Moses the people would turn away, he never stopped encouraging them to keep His commandments.

Thank You for the life You give us through Your Living Word . . .the Bible and Your Son. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Our Life

It is not a futile thing
to praise and worship our King
it is not a waste of time
to read the Bible’s every verse and line
for it is our life
filled with the power of Christ
our sustenance, our grace
our map for seeing His face.
