His Words In My Mouth

“For your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant.”  2 Samuel 14:19

I find myself speaking on my daughter’s behalf when she is having trouble getting her words out.

Lord, thank You for giving me the words to say right when I need to say them.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

All These Words

People can put
words in my mouth
in order to control
what I say

but I really long
for You to reign
over the thoughts
on my tongue

His Longing

“So Absalom fled and went to Gashur, and was there three years.”  2 Samuel 13:38
“And King David longed to go to Absalom.  For he had been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead.”  2 Samuel 13:39

God longs to come even though we sin, nail His Son to the cross and flee.

Lord, thank You for the comfort of salvation and your resurrection power.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

To Be With You Always

I long to be with you
but we’re separated by your sin
so I sent My Jesus
and though you crucified Him
He brought the Comforter
My Holy Spirit has come
to be with You always
through the Christ, My Son.

If That Had Been Too Little

“Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.'”  2 Samuel 12:7

“I gave you your master’s house and your masters’ wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah.  And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more!”  2 Samuel 12:8

God was prepared to give David much more . . .if he’d asked.

Lord, please help me understand all that You have given me and forever be done with the “too little” mentality.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Still Time Yet

If it was too little
would I not give you more
since I am omnipresent
wouldn’t I know before
you had an unfilled need
a heart desire unmet
for you have eternal life
and there is still time yet.

Before Bathsheba

“Now it came to pass in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel . . .But David remained at Jerusalem.”  2 Samuel 11:1

We are deceived into thinking we’re alone.

Lord, may I not lose my awareness of just how close You are.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Still With You

I am within you and with you
I give My Spirit so you know

that I’ll never, ever leave you
this is truth and always so

for when temptation tugs you
in thought or word or deed

you are still in My presence
turn to Me and let Me lead.

Those Negative Voices

“Then David said, ‘I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me’.”  2 Samuel 10:2
“Then the princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, ‘Do you think that David really honors your father because he has sent comforters to you?  Has David not rather sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?'”  2 Samuel 10:3

How often is something good seen as something bad?

Lord, help us reject the negative voices today that want to discourage and destroy Your good in our lives.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

The Good Nudge

So much negativity
in the world today

trying to destroy what’s good
so listen when you pray

to My Holy Spirit
and what I have to say

if something isn’t right
I will nudge you away.

The Kindness of God

“Then the king said, ‘Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, to whom I many show the kindness of God’?”  2 Samuel 9:3

I’m usually kind to those around me . . .who are kind.

Lord, help me to seek out someone who needs to know the kindness of God.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Supernaturally Kind

To be kind to someone
who is kind
just comes naturally

but to be kind
to the one who throws
stones of judgment

will take You
working in me

“The Lord preserved David wherever he went.”  2 Samuel 8:6

Some things are preserved in museums or jars, but David was not in such a place.

Lord, we humbly bow down as You consider us valuable and cherished,  a people that You will preserve.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

His Heart Preserves

Wherever you go
whatever you do
I am watching
over you.

Supernatural Shepherd
Living Water Lifeguard
you’re never at risk
eternally saved in My heart.

Desiring For God

“See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside  tent curtains.”  2 Samuel 7:2  (David speaking)

“Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house.”  2 Samuel 7:11 (Nathan speaking)

What David desired to do for God, God multiplied to infinity back to him.

Lord, may the desires of my heart always be about You. And here’s a simple poem  . . .

A Forever House

David loved the Lord
and wanted to build Him a house
but God said no.

He knew David
the desire of his heart
and it pleased Him so

that He promised David
an heir forever, a house
that would always reign.

Did David know then
by the Holy Spirit
that Jesus Christ was His  name?

Last To Be Blessed

“Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.”  2 Samuel 6:17
“And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.”  2 Samuel 6:18
“Then David returned to bless his household.”  2 Samuel 6:20

It can be challenging as those of the household, last to be blessed.

Oh Lord, let our homes be safe places of mercy and grace, understanding and love.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

In Line With Him

We struggle feeling unnoticed
unthought of, unmissed

at the very bottom of
a loved one’s list

but in God’s Kingdom
we are so blessed as His

that there is love and understanding
to cover such as this.

God Strategy

“And the Lord said to David, ‘Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand’.”  2 Samuel 5:19
“And when David inquired of the Lord, He said, ‘You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them, in front of the mulberry trees’.”  2 Samuel 5:23
“So it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines’.”  2 Samuel 5:24

No matter what we’re facing, God has a plan.

Thank You, Lord, for knowing each of us individually and deeply and knowing exactly what is going on in our lives.  And here is a simple poem . . .

In the Works

Sometimes what you need
will be delivered into your hand

other times you’ll have to wait
and trust in My plan

for I won’t always do things
the same way each time

but know that I am working
out something good and divine.
