Fixed Hearts

“I know also, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here to offer willingly to You.

O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and fix their heart toward You.”  1 Chronicles 29:17-18

I might be able to fix my make-up, but not my heart.

Lord, we pray for You to fix our hearts toward You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Willing

May my hands
always be willing
may my feet
follow through
may my eyes
be fixed on Jesus
may my heart
be right toward You.

By His Hand Upon Me

“All this,” said David, “the LORD made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.”  1 Chronicles 28:19

I don’t understand everything in His written Word.

Lord, I trust You to help me understand what You want me to each day.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

When I Need To Know

By Your Hand upon me
I will understand

all that You
desire me to

of what is written
what is planned.

Of Counselors and Companions

“Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion.”  1 Chronicles 27:32

So thankful for all of our counselors and companions!

Lord, we praise You and thank You for being our most Wonderful Counselor and Companion, who never leaves us nor forsakes us.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Through Human Lips

We have the Holy Spirit
Jesus inside of us

still He understands
our needs and weakness

and gives counselors and companions
that we might hear from mere lips

His desires and love for us
conveyed through humanness.

GateKeeper

“Among these were the divisions of the gatekeepers, among the chief men, having duties just like their brethren, to serve in the house of the Lord.” 1 Chronicles 26:12

Gates would only keep what is in, in, and what is out, out, without someone there to work them.

Lord, we praise You as Gate and Holy Spirit as Keeper for all those who’ve gone in and those yet to enter.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Guarded

The gates needed keeping
a constant watch

over the coming and going
of who’s who and what’s what

and so You have set
Holy Spirit over our souls

all that goes in has a purpose
all that leaves Heaven knows.

Prophetic Music

“Moreover David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of Asaph, of Heman, and of Jeduthun,  who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments and cymbals.”  1 Chronicles 25:1

Who but God would think of prophesying with harps?

Lord, we lift up our musicians as they birth new prophetic music today.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

With Harps

Songs are His mouthpiece
to us from His heart

recording what has happened
prophesying what will start

more than entertainment
or something pleasing to hear

music is God’s voice
telling us He’s near.

Service Scheduled

“This was the schedule of their service for coming into the house of the LORD according to their ordinance by the hand of Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.”  1 Chronicles 24:19

My daughter finds comfort in schedules and routines.

Lord, we desire to keep ourselves on a continual schedule of serving and loving You.   And here’s a simple poem . . .

Serving Comfort

And so service began
with Aaron and sons

and trickled on down
to lesser known ones

a schedule of who
and when and what

and the comfort of keeping
God central in thought.

Instruments of Praise

” . . .and four thousand praised the Lord with musical instruments, ‘which I made,’ said David, ‘for giving praise.'”  1 Chronicles 23:5

I don’t play any musical instruments.

Lord, I desire to be an instrument of praise to You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

An Instrument

Your hand
is on me
because of You
I sing
Your breath
fills me
with melody for
my King.

When Their Reality Is Our Dream

“So David made abundant preparations before his death.

Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

And David said to Solomon, “My Son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the LORD my God. . .”  1 Chronicles 22:5-7

David really wanted to build the house for the LORD.

Lord, when others get to do what we’ve always dreamed of, help us not to turn and walk away, but stay and support them.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Even Though

So many emotions
come into play

when things don’t go
just our way

please help us remember
we’re on the same team

to still pour into others
when their life is our dream.

Moved By ?

“Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.”  1 Chronicles 21:1

There are any number of things we can be moved by in a day.

Lord, may we be moved by what moves You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Such As These

You aren’t moved by
threats and lies

temptations dressed up
in disguise

but by love and honest prayers
heart-soaked cries

Oh Lord, may such as these
move I.

Staying Behind

“And it happened, in the spring of the year, at the time kings go out to battle, that Joab led out the armed forces and ravaged the country of the people of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah.  But David stayed at Jerusalem. And Joab defeated Rabbah and overthrew it.”  1 Chronicles 20:1

David stayed behind and lost a different battle.

Lord, we desire to stay in the battles you want us in.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Day to Day

Lord, You know when we’re weary
of the battles day to day
wanting to just check out
and avoid the fray

so please strengthen us
to enter in once more
and be lifted by the fact
You’ve already won the war.
