Foreign

“Stretch out Your hand from above;
Rescue me and deliver me out of
great waters,
From the hand of foreigners,
Whose mouth speaks vain words,
And whose right hand is a right
hand of falsehood.”  Psalm 144:7-8

David repeats this statement twice in Psalm 144, not afraid of being politically incorrect.

Lord, please deliver me from all “foreign” thoughts, and the vain words and false actions that can follow.  And here is a simple poem . . .

Stretch Out Your Hand

Please rescue me
and deliver me

out of the
great waters

of foreign thoughts
and vain words

and the falsehood
that follows.

  1. What a startling image in this context! Reach high today!

  2. “Please rescue me
    and deliver me
    out of the
    great waters…”

I’ve prayed prayers akin to this hundreds of times over my nearly 28 years of being a Christian, always hoping I would finally arrive in a safe place with no spiritual warfare going on. But I’ve come to this conclusion: “It ain’t ever happening in this life. There are no days off. So, I might as well enjoy the battle. What other choice do I (or we) have?”

27 up and 27 down. A perfect game on your part again. So, oil your glove and get ready for tomorrow. Tell Aub: “It’s baseball season and time to sing, ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame,” in two-part harmony. Hope she’s feeling better.

  3. “Foreign thoughts”–that’s good, Sis–really puts a clear name on them so they’ll be more easily recognizable to me (I hope…). Thank you for your good work here. Praying God’s hand of favor and blessing on you, to smooth down any static electricity (an issue that’s been driving me to distraction–maybe I’ll post about it later). Love you Big–your old sis Caddo

  4. I guess we all grab the hand that we think will rescue us. One is the hand of a True Rescuer; the other “is a right hand of falsehood.” Wonderful post, Deb.

  5. Oh Man – Deb – I am so blown away by this one. I really have to ponder this one – sooo good – such a strong image – and i love that the waters are “of foreign thoughts
and vain words” this is a huge thought.
    yeah – wow

  6. so brilliant in what and how we need to protect ourself ~by becoming aware of the foreign [evil thoughts] that are constantly slung at our minds and, truly our defense is in prayer as David is example of. Deb sis, I’m ever consoled by your word of the Spirit ! xo

  7. How easily we can get ourselves in troubles … how faithful our Father to keep us from it – if we ask Him. Thanks for the lift today 🙂

  8. Amen!! I sure will, dear Melody! Thank you and God bless you bunches!

  9. So so true, Mr. Larry, about no days off. So praying for Him to teach me how to enjoy the battle. 🙂 Thank you always, for your insights and knowledge and God bless you too! So glad your blog is back!
p.s. I’ve done gone and confused Aub about the Kentucky Derby. She is now thinking you are going to be watching her ride. haha!! I better wait to spring baseball season on her. Thanks for your prayers . .she is better now! Just a hard night for her, emotionally, the other day.

  10. I am grabbing on to your thoughts, Sis, and asking for Him to make the foreign ones stand apart and be more recognizable for me too!! Static electricity is not funny! Did I ever tell you about shocking that poor horse on the nose? I tell you, he did not forget it for over a year, not letting me near his face or nose. I felt so bad!! Love you and God bless you, beautiful wonderful Sis!

  11. Oh Judy .. your thoughts and comment made this simple post much better and more clear! Thank you and God bless you!

  12. Really, Mr. Ben? I kind of reach for some of these . . .not sure how anyone follows my thoughts sometimes. So thanks for coming along and helping me! And God bless you and yours as He guides your thoughts and words and actions!

  13. I think of that too, dear Debbie, that there is so much ‘foreign’ for us to block out each day. So thankful that He is with us and helps us! God bless you and cover beautiful you today!

  14. Good point , Heidi . .the need to ask Him to keep us from evil! Thank you for blessing us and God bless you!!

  15. Reblogged this on My Delight and My Counsellors.

  16. Yeh, Deb. As in my studies I have noticed the same about political correctness. Those were led of the Lord were willing to clearly declare His Word and warn against those who opposed it. Lord bless you!

  17. I love the image that you’ve used to go so well with these powerful and “right” words, Debbie! Truth is still truth whether it is believed by all or not.

Blessings on your weekend ~ Wendy

  18. He who began a good work….will finish it. That’s a comforting promise.

  19. Thank you and God bless you!

  20. We need that clearness today, Pastor Rob! Thank you and God bless you as you start new studies!

  21. Thank you so much for your blessings and for sharing His truth, Wendy, in that wise and comforting way He has given you! God bless you and yours this weekend too!

  22. Oh yes it is, Ike! 🙂 His promises are a done deal! Thank you and God bless you!

  23. Once again Debbie – so much truth and wisdom in so few words! – words that can only come from our incredibly amazing God.

Two thoughts: God’s hand is ALWAYS stretched out towards us – but sadly, we don’t always reach out to Him (and I’m thankfu He has a longer hand, is more patient and loving, and continues until He draws me to Himself)

“foreign thoughts, vain words, falsehoods” – we are surrounded by them. We can’t avoid them. One thing we know is that they are NOT from the perfect, unable to be wrong, holy God – so we can (should) ignore them and give them the time they deserve: none!

  24. That ending line about giving those thoughts the time they deserve . .NONE, was just so good! Thank you, Mentor Angela for helping us just nip it in the bud! God bless you and yours !
