All Set

“I called on the LORD in distress;
The LORD answered me and set me
in a broad place.”  Psalm 118:5

Circumstances can close in on us.

Lord, please help me to remember I am always in a broad generous place because of You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Eyes Wide Open

Feeling hemmed in
by my situation
distressed enough
so I just can’t see
until You open my eyes
to the wide place
You have
set me.

  1. …Circumstances can close in on us…

That’s been my testimony for the last few days too, Debbie … in the form of a computer hard drive crash – with nothing backed up!! I’m looking to have my eyes opened on how to get my “stuff” back. Bless you, am praying for you.

  2. Hallelujah! I needed this “eye-opener”. My illness and slow recovery (sick and nauseated all day again yesterday) has clouded my vision, leaving me feeling weak and discouraged… BUT God… He knows and His plans for my life haven’t changed just because my circumstances have. I just need to keep my eyes fixed on Him, and He will keep me in perfect peace.

Much love to you for your prayers, your poetry and your faithfulness to our God and Savior!

  3. The Lord’s blessings touch every aspect of our lives…. during the stressful times and the quiet times of our lives, His blessings continue to flow to us. Thanks Deb for these encouraging words.

  4. Reblogged this on My Delight and My Counsellors.

  5. There nothing quite like seeing things through God’s eyes . . . everything just looks clearer . . . just like those pastures in your photo see how content that little lamb is . . . ~ God Bless you Deb ~

  6. And when life closes in it can feel so tight, but God has a way of making what seems tight to bring relief to His people. His blessings and His word are life, and those who drink of it will reap the rewards of it. AMEN

  7. “…set me in a broad place…”

I like this term which the NKJ version specifically uses. I think of myself balancing on a 3″ ledge of a skyscraper in NYC, but because the Lord hears my cries, He widens the ledge so it’s a safe sidewalk for both of my feet to walk on. Thanks Lord for a broad place for size my 12s.

Great reminder today for all of us. Okay. Okay. It’s a little chilly in Cat-land, but the people of Nome, AK, are rejoicing because it’s only -11 right now, rather than 40 below like Johnny Horton sang in his old song.

  8. unfortunately we box ourselves in when we lose the eternal perspective ~ this is a proverb for me!

  9. Debbie, I love Psalm 118:5! Your poem is a perfect reminder of our freedom in Christ.

    Blessings ~ Wendy

  10. Beautiful. I so often have cataracts, myself – I struggle to see, to understand, and in the struggle, forget to open my eyes to what is good and right and true. Thanks Debbie!

  11. Lovely poem, Sweet Sis Deb! I guess what I’ve learned this past week is that when my circumstances are hemming me in–and pinching!–I should remember that I am “Hedged in by His glory”. Surely that trumps any pinching circumstances. God bless you for your faithfulness and love, in standing firm to hold me up in prayer–thank you times a jillion. And God bless your rest tonight, and tomorrow–go slow, that’s my Rx for you! Love you, Baby Cakes–your Caddo-back-in-the-JOY-business~~

  12. Oh no, Roger! Praying with you about your computer crash and retrieval. Thank you for praying for me and God bless you!

  13. I love His big plans for you, dear Cheryl! Sorry to hear your recovery is so slow .. I can be so impatient with that sort of thing, so will keep the prayers coming. God bless you! Love and hugs!

  14. Thanks for reminding His blessings are for always, Pastor Rob, and God bless you!

  15. Thank you and God bless you!

  16. That lamb does look content .. knows its in a good place. 🙂 Thank you and God bless you as He makes things clear to you, dear Deborah!

  17. Amen, dear Desiray and God bless you!

  18. I loved the visual you gave us, Mr. Larry, of the narrow ledge and then a sidewalk! 🙂 Thank you and God bless the broad place He has set you in!
Those Alaskans are tough! 🙂 It was chilly here, but the wind had stopped blowing, so it felt pretty nice! I’m thinking we might be able to swing outside again tomorrow!

  19. Thank you for helping us see it’s a choice for us to make, in how we see it each time! God bless you as He shows you lovely spaces today!

  20. It’s easy for me right now, to see this and remember, so praying that it is still in place tomorrow and the next day! Thank you for your blessings, Wendy, and God bless you!

  21. Sometimes I write down the good things .. to make my seeing them more intentional. The struggles are loud and try to drown out everything else. Thank you, Melody and God bless you and all that He shows you today!

  22. I loved this, Sis Caddo Delight .. hemmed in by His glory! Yes that surely does trump all others! 🙂 You are a warrior woman, who will not be hemmed in by anything outside of His love. And He loves you BIG! I love you big too! God bless you as you jump back into the joy saddle!

  23. Lord, You bore our pains and carried our sickness, the stripes you bore those many passovers ago were for Cheryl’s healing. Come deliver Lord, Messiah! Come and deliver!

  24. Deb, Another masterpiece dear one!

  25. We certainly feel ‘hemmed in’ when we allow our circumstances to swallow us, but praise God, we do not have to be ‘under the circumstances, because HE is ABOVE all circumstances and we are “in Him” so WE are ABOVE all circumstances too. That doesn’t mean that we’ll never have troubles, but that He is with us in everything and as we submit to Him, He will undertake, bringing us through a more mature person.

We serve an incredibly amazing God who – as you say – ‘sets me in a wide place’ and delights to teach me of His love, mercy, grace and provision for His blood-bought, adopted child whom He loves with an everlasting love.

  26. God bless you, Mr. Ben, and the place He has set you!

  27. Thank you, mentor Angela, for such a faith packed comment. I love that because we are in Him, we also are about all our circumstances too. .. so true! God bless you in wonderful generous ways today!

  28. Thank you for such a beautiful prayer for Cheryl, Mr. Ben!

  29. sorry if i am medling

  30. No way! 🙂

  31. Deb, this is so good. It’s not that we aren’t surrounded by goodness; we just get distracted and fail to notice it. I am so glad the Lord opens eyes!

  32. I am so thankful for that too, dear woman of the word! I get stuck and just see what I want to see. Love you and God bless you!
