The People of His Pasture

“For He is our God,
And we are the people
of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.”  Psalm 95:7

Sheep are domestic animals that need the care of a shepherd.

Lord, thank  You for the pasture You have hand-picked for me.  And here is a simple poem . . .

Sheep

We are the sheep of His hand
the people of His pasture

not seeking greener grass
or to be our own master

blessed to abide in
the place of His love.

  1. Perfection, Sis Deb–so beautifully expresses what I feel too. God bless your Monday–much love, sis Caddo

  2. The older I get the more I realize how much I need to rely and trust the shepherd. Without Him I am lost.

  3. This is one of those lessons i came by hard. I am ok with being God’s sheep, but for a long time had this independent thing going, and it cost me LARGE

  4. I wish your poem totally referred to me. But alas, I tend to look over fences at tall, lush, green grass and wonder what it would be like to munch on that grass. The only thing holding me back is the Master’s hand and knowing how much He loves me. And to be honest, that’s enough.

Great poem. Just checked Caterpillar-Land weather and Aub will need galoshes today.

  5. “hand-picked pasture” this is reassuring, because I so long to move out of this city where I am now(: but don’t have a way out. *Thank you* Debbie, for the reassurance that God knows all about this pasture.

  6. very nice

  7. we graze in his glory.. Selected to be in his pasture. God bless you Debbie

  8. Debbie, I love the line, ‘not seeking greener grass or to be our own master.’ I can sure understand why He calls us sheep… I’m glad He is such a gracious Shepherd!

    Blessings ~ Wendy

  9. Ewe are so beautifully His! 🙂 Love you and God bless you marvelous Monday, sis Caddo!

  10. Thank you for you understanding about being sheep! It’s not a bad thing. 🙂 God bless you as you rely and trust Him.

  11. I understand , Mr. Ben! I was pretty sure I belonged in another pasture besides this one. 🙂 Thank you for sharing Jesus like you do and God bless you!

  12. I have this image of Him using that crook part of the staff, to grab me by the neck and pull me back to where I need to be. 🙂 God bless you as you know how much He loves you. That is huge!
p.s. We’ve had a bit of everything today, weather wise! Thanks for the advisory!

  13. I will trust Him with you, dear Brook, that He has you in just the right place for now . .. and is making plans for a pasture change in your future. God bless you!

  14. Thanks for stopping by, dear Terry and God bless you today!

  18. I’m not good at being my own master either, Lady Dei! Make a real mess of things! So thankful with you and for you! God bless you and yours!

  19. Reblogged this on My Delight and My Counsellors.

  20. I am a little late but was in John 10 the last couple of days and Jesus told us he was the door that we go in and out to pasture. Thankful our shepherd shows us His way:) Blessings and the pasture He intends for you!

  21. Oh that the world would be consumed by the mindset of your second stanza Deb!

  22. Thank you and God bless you!

  23. Thank you , Tom, for sharing from John 10 and for the prayers! God bless you as He leads you on and keeps you fed!

  24. At first write, I had it worded differently. But He helped me to turn it into a more positive statement of faith. God bless you , Pastor J, and all the places He sets you in!

  25. I am so thankful that the Lord hand-picks our pasture.

I am thinking about these words:

    not seeking greener grass
or to be our own master

It is so to become ungrateful for our lot in life, and to slip into a “living for pleasure” mindset, even in the meekest of homes. I can be very selective about what I will yield over to the Lord and conveniently forget that there are other things that still need yielding.

Thank you so much for this beautiful poem and post.

    Love,
    Theresa

  26. I have been a seeker of greener grass, Theresa . .and to be my own master! So thankful that He keeps me in check and thankful for where I am. Something about your comment has me thinking about where Aubrey goes for horse therapy. The pasture can be green and lush, but Julie can’t always let the horses out in it, because it is too wet and the ground is too soft. They will tear it all up and the pasture won’t be good any more.
Love you and God bless you, right where you are!

  27. >> “not seeking greener grass or to be our own master
blessed to abide in the place of His love”

Amen! I tried being my own master and all I knew was failure and misery.
What an abundance of blessings, joy and peace, to abide in His love and in His plans for me!

Thank you Deb for yet another God-given pearl of wisdom.

  28. So good to have you here, mentor Angela! 🙂 God bless you with an abundance of all the things His will holds for you!
