“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,
to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.” Titus 3:1-2
I am listening to this as the November elections draw near.
Lord, as we embrace this scripture for ourselves, we also pray it for those who will be leaders in our country. And here’s a simple poem . . .
What Good?
What good will come
if we aren’t ready
to do good
and obey
to be gentle
and know Peace
to hold back on
calling names?
Ready to do good and show restraint… I like it 🙂 May God give us all such grace.
Excellent, I like when you said for the leaders country..we do need to be praying about our country…everyday…
“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey…Titus 3:1
Christians throughout history have looked at the above scripture, as well as Romans 13:1, and have meekly bowed down to evil governments, thinking they were obeying God. This happened in Germany with the Nazis.
Yet, at the time Paul wrote this scripture, he was disobeying Roman law by proclaiming Jesus as Lord and King, and not Caesar. He eventually was executed for this.
The balance is we “do good and obey God,” and if it costs us our freedoms or lives, we accept the penalties as being worth it for His sake.
Great poem…what’s next? Huh? Huh?
AMEN Deb, we need to be praying that the Lord would put Godly leaders in postions of authority and also prya for those in authority that they might make decisions that are pleasing to Him. Our responsibility to vote for men who would be pleasing to the Lord is very great. Thanks for the reminders… they are much needed!
I like the simple poem, Sis Deb–and maybe I’m over-thinking the comments before me, as I got confused on the topic/verse. Could be I’m just hung up in my bull rope lately. God bless you with a Fab Friday–love, sis Caddo
What Godgirl said ….
Thanks for sharing, Dearest Deb
Chewing on gentle, peace, and the concept of being ready to do (what He requires). Not getting ready, but being ready. Chewing. Still chewing …
Blessings
Ann
P.S. have a super Friday!
Sounds like a plan to me! 🙂 God bless you, Ali, as you stay ready with grace on hand!
Yes, praying to keep praying for our country. And leaders are not exempt from obeying, eh? 🙂 God bless you, dear Desiray, as you pray and obey Him today!
Thank you so much, Mr. Larry, for explaining it better, what it means and who we obey first . ..always. 🙂 Well, next is Psalms! I will be there awhile! haha! God bless you as you do good and obey!
Thank you for helping us think about our leaders and to pray as we make decisions! God bless you as you do good and are peaceable today!
You hang on sweet Sis Caddo! You just take whatever you want from this. It was not the best of devotions! The comments are always better. . .but each may come away with something a little different. Love you and am thinking of you . .. not long til finals now. God bless!
You are so cute, Ann full of grace and song! You are SO ready . ..no problem! 🙂 Love and prayers for you a great weekend! God bless your ever ready to serve Him heart.
Great point! Politics has become ugly! We all need to bind Christ’s attributes to us — our country needs morals and values again. Everyone should be praying daily for our country and Israeli.
God Bless You, Deb!
May God bless your elections indeed!
Two thought to add to the above comments:
Jesus: Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you.
Paul: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Politics seems to bring out the mean – left and right.
I have many friends and family members who are Christians and will be voting for President Obama (although to read some blogs, just that means they can’t truly be saved).
And I have many friends and family members who are Christians and will be voting for Mr Romney.
My son has a PhD in Political Science and is a professor at a major university and even he longs for the election to be over!
Perfect verse, lovely poem.
Thank you for stepping up and calling everyone out here.
Amen, amen God’s will is what we desire and pleasing Him should be our focus, whether we’re voting or whatever,God’s will is plain and clear “Love”!
Love you 😀
The poem is even more beautiful now that I’ve come back to reread it–some days I should just steer clear of the comments, right?
You know, that is probably good advice for us all, at times. 🙂 love you!
Thank you, Lady Dei for such a comment as this at a time like this! I just can’t listen or read about who said what about whom. Don’t think that is helpful, but such is politics. 🙂 God bless you as you pray and bind yourself to Christ!
You are so kind and lovely! God bless YOU!
Oh I love the verses, gracious one! 🙂 Thank you for coming and adding just what we needed here. I gulped a little at you saying I did . . .what? Called everyone out? oops. haha!
love you and God bless you and your gracious heart . . .even during an election year. 🙂
p.s. our oldest majored in political science. . .I miss her being here and helping me understand what’s going on. 🙂
So good to see you, precious Pat! And what a good word you brought us too. It doesn’t say love most of the time, but everything goes with politics. 🙂 God bless you and keep you in His clearly brilliant love! love and prayers!
Dan is the finest man I know. He’s a passionate believer and is pretty much my sole source of political info – he is truly a no-spin zone. 😉
This one is convicting, but conviction is a good thing. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Love,
Theresa
This “simple poem” packed a huge punch! Cuts straight to the heart, in a gentle way! Also, a picture is worth a thousand words! Lovely accompanying image! Love and prayers!
Paulette
You are so sweet, wonderful woman of the Word! God bless you and yours and all the good you do!! love you!
Love you, Paulette, and so glad to see you out and about! 🙂 Didn’t want you to get punched though! 🙂 God bless you and your gentle heart for Him! Praying you have a good day!
I haven’t been following your political race, but it seems to be a given nowadays to smear each other during campaigning time. It would be very refreshing to have an election roll around with just issues, not mudslinging! Sound advice for us all.
I can’t follow it either, Melody! 🙂 God bless you as you keep the good words coming!
Deb, we certainly need to pray for our political leaders! I say (not irreverently) that I sometimes wonder at God’s command to obey those in leadership over us, and when it comes to some issues (legalised abortion for one) I am thankful we also have the advice that “we ought to obey God rather than men” Acts 5:30. We desperately need to carefully and prayerfully consider those we choose to lead.
In our Government here, name calling has reached an all-time low. If it wasn’t for the fact that we know God is still in control, we would be in despair.
How wonderful we have a name-calling God, who calls us His treasure, the apple of His eye, His beloved, His own child! How wonderful that we can call our Father God such intimate, wholesome, loving names as those in your graphic!
What an amazing, loving, Father, Redeemer God!
(We are home from Brisbane. All is OK but the disappointing news is that they were unable to do the stenting)
Praying with you, Angela, as they were unable to do the stenting. Thank you for letting me know, dear one.
And I was just nodding my head through your comment . ..and then a huge smile lit my face when you began about us having a name-calling God!!!!! Amen and amen! Oh, I loved that!
God bless you as He calls you and Myles by name, His beloved, much treasured, children of His.
