When Fear Is Wise

“And to man He said,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.'”Β  Job 28:28

I don’t always think of wisdom the way that God does.

Lord, I desire to fear You more, in the right way, and ask that Your Spirit propel me away from every evil. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Wisdom Begins

and look to You alone.

  1. Great wisdom in your simple poem.

  2. Hi Debbie; Great post. I really like it.. Bro Pat. πŸ™‚

  3. Love it! Awesome & Inspirational!
    God Bless You, Deb!

  4. For several years I lived on the wild Oregon coast. As I walked on the beach, I both loved and feared the ocean. I was in awe of it’s beauty and power. I often think of the Father like the ocean – beautiful and awesome – my favorite place to be, but never entirely safe!

  5. Your opening line says it all – we so rarely think of anything in the way God does – and tend to believe that the ways in which we view the world are ‘correct’ …

  6. What a striking analogy!
I’ve only been to the coast once in my lifetime…and also felt the tremendously humbling power and vast, wild beauty of the ocean. It does have a way of “drawing” one closer, yet demands our utmost respect .

  7. Debbie, there is much wisdom in the simplicity of this poem.

We must fear God rather than man. Humility before the Lord must come before honor, and we must trust Him to bring it to pass.
Thank you for sharing the insight He has given you!

  8. Such an excellent simple truth, Sis Deb! Amen and amen! God bless you as you serve and work through the weekend–much love, sis Caddo

  9. “…Lord, I desire to fear You more, in the right way, and ask that Your Spirit propel me away from every evil…”

Now, here’s a prayer I should pray daily. Amen.

  10. God bless you, Patricia, and thank you for sharing wisdom from Him with us!

  11. God bless you and give you the wisdom that begins and ends with Jesus! πŸ™‚ I’ll be back to reading your wonderful messages as soon as I can!

  12. Awesome and inspirational sounds like YOU, Lady Dei! πŸ™‚ My youngest and I saw an ultralight going over tonight. She loves planes .. .trains . .. cars! πŸ™‚ God bless you, wise woman of His!

  13. I’ve never been to either coast , but agree with Heather, this was an inspired analogy, gracious one! πŸ™‚ I think I need to understand more about fearing Him. He is so faithful to help us with all of this! God bless you and thank you for the way you add and help here! love and prayers!

  14. Your comment really says it all to me too, Melody. I tend to believe I’m correct . . .so may He show me the areas where I’m not! God bless you and all the wisdom He brings into your heart and home.

  15. Thank you, sweet Heather, for showing us about fearing God, not man . ..and about humility too. Wisdom God’s way brings much along with it. God bless you and your family this weekend!

  16. Thank you for the blessings, prayer and love! God is answering and carrying us through. It is so easy to say “yes” to these serving / work times . ..because I forget that it can get kind of exhausting. haha! God bless you as you work too, Sis Caddo, and minister to us all with His words and poems! love you!

  17. There is so much to pray daily! Good thing He helps us even do this! God bless you, Mr. Larry, and all the wisdom that He reveals and gives to you! And that you share with us!

  18. Thank you – and to you, too!

  19. That ‘simple poem’ is the solid truth. No need for addition and NOTHING can be said against it.

(Deb, I will not be around for a few days. I have family home. Just letting you know)

  20. Thank you Dearest Deb

Such depth of truth In such a ‘simple’ nugget! Sweet!

Thanks for the reminder that when we come to the end of ourselves, God is already there!!!

God bless you over and over again!

  21. God bless you, Mentor Angela, and His wisdom that you share with us! πŸ™‚ Praying your time with family be really sweet!!! Thank you for being so thoughtful and letting me know. love and prayers!

  22. Oh I love that, Ann full of grace and song, that when we come to the end of ourselves, God is already there. Waiting. And somehow He doesn’t tap His fingers and roll His eyes when we finally show up! πŸ™‚ God bless you with wisdom and understanding, life and love!

  23. Wisdom Begins When I Stop Depending On Myself and look to You alone.

AMEN! So true… it is when we understand we are weak and need our Lord that we are strong and able to do great things for Him. Lord bless you.

  24. I love this poem. It is so true. We are so needy at times. Before I scrolled down far enough to actually read your poem and look at the peaceful picture of the ocean I was thinking about something related to your verse:

    β€œAnd to man He said,
β€˜Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’” Job 28:28

I was thinking about when the tide comes in, and about really big waves. You can be in for big trouble if you are caught in their path. When you realize what’s happening you need to hurry further inland. I was picturing what it might be like when a parent and child are found together in a situation lie that. The child might not understand the danger and be reluctant to leave, or she might understand and be really scared, because her little legs might not be able to move quickly enough. Then the parent scoops her up and swiftly carries her to a safe place.

I think evil is like that tide, and we are wise when we listen. If we are disobedient and go our own way it is disastrous. If we just freeze in fear it is still disastrous. But if we obediently take His hand or better yet, allow Him to carry us we truly do have understanding.

I thought about that and when I saw the picture I just had to share it with you. πŸ™‚

  25. I can forget this, that this is what real wisdom is . .. not being wise in the eyes of others. God bless you as you lean on Him today, Pastor Rob!

  26. Theresa, that was such a beautiful insight from Him and how extra meaningful as He gave it to you even before seeing the picture. I really like evil being compared to the tide and the waves . . .because it is like that in the things that we get lulled in by, things that are deceptive and we don’t always see the danger in. May we all be quick to let Him carry us away from such things!
God bless you and thank you for sharing your heart and His with us!!! love and prayers!
