Not Buying It

. . .that if the peoples of the land bring wares or any grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we would not buy from them on the Sabbath, or on a holy day . . .”  Nehemiah 10:31

We can’t stop others from selling, but we have a choice about what we buy into.

Lord, I desire what I can only have from being with You.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

I Don’t Think So

source – wikipedia

We don’t have to
be rude
in order not to buy
what is being sold.

We can turn to God
and away
with a “thank you”  but
“I don’t think so.”

  1. Debbie,

I appreciate your “simple” prayer as much as I do your simple poem.

Lord, I desire what I can only have from being with You.

Can I just add “ME TOO!”?

  2. Oh yes you can, sweet Heather! 🙂 God bless you as you stay sold out for Him! love and prayers!

  3. Thank you so much for this. People have so much to offer each other…goods to buy, the opinions, and advice…pieces of mind they are so eager to share. So often a simple “No thank you” will do. This was a type of confirmation for me

    Love,
    Theresa

What a gentle way of saying no to someone, especially an unbeliever. And probably much better than acting like the person is a vampire and holding up a cross, expecting the person to fell to the ground and hiss like a wounded snake.

    God bless you today.

  5. You have such a tender heart, sweet woman of the Word. You are following my thought exactly . . that there has to be away of not making others feel bad or wrong for what they are sharing/ selling while not actually taking it all in ourselves. And without us having to be defensive about it all. God bless you and all that He is speaking to you today. love and prayers and hope to get to your latest post soon!

  6. 😀 Mr. Larry, you always make me smile. I will miss your insight and help here, but understand and will pray for you during this upcoming month . . without too much whining. God bless you and the time you spend with Jesus, receiving what you can only get from Him.

  7. We really don’t need to buy what is being sold, especially at the cost! Just thinking that what is really of value, wasn’t sold but given freely.
    God Bless you, Deb! 🙂

  8. Oh . .. wonderful insight and comment Ted! 🙂 God bless you as you hold on to what you have in Jesus!

  9. Thank you, Dearest Delightful Deb

With all the ‘junk’ being sold today, “No, thank you” seems a great way to go!

“Lord, I desire what I can only have from being with You. ”
    Praying alongside you.

    Blessings
    ann

  10. You reflect the One you buy into so well, Ann full of grace and song! God bless you as you gently say No to what just won’t do for you!

  11. you are so right in all you said………..

  12. Oh this is perfect, Sis Deb–and I fervently pray that I can learn to do it “nicely”, with a gentle, sweet, gracious spirit. Larry’s comment is TOO Funny–and I suspect sometimes I may look like that–arrgghh. God bless you Muchly–love, sis Caddo (sending up healing prayers for Aubie’s hurt finger, too!)

  13. God bless you, Angel Terry, as you care for Al tonight!

  14. I know what you mean about Larry’s comment . . .and how that has been my attitude at times! haha! God bless you and thank you for your sweet prayers. love you big!!!

  15. My ever polite parents and multiple viewings of Mary Poppins when I was 8 convinced me early on that there’s always an alternative to rude. Unfortunately, I can’t always think of one.
On those occasions, I kind of do the “deer in the headlights” frozen response. It helps a lot to have kind words like yours: “Thank you, but I don’t think so” tucked away to pull out until my brain thaws. 😀

  16. You always bless me and amaze me, gracious FF. 🙂 I can’t imagine you being really rude. The deer in the headlights happens to me too, and I count it as a blessing and a God thing, being frozen like that, so at least nothing bad comes out of my mouth. haha! And we do know that sometimes people don’t let us simply say “no thank you” without a battle pursuing. We’ll need more kind words tucked into our arsenal , me thinks! Oh! Maybe a few bless her / his hearts! God bless YOU and your night with Him! love and prayers!

  17. Deb,

I really appreciated you statement “We can’t stop others from selling, but we have a choice about what we buy into” It is so true. There will always be people trying to take advantage of others. By God’s grace, He will give us the wisdom to know when to say “No thank you” Lord bless.

  18. Hi Debbie — there is a great truth spoken in this post … there is much selling of false doctrines and lies … may we have eyes to see what is truth and what is not. ~ Rachel

  19. I loved your understanding and posts about buying and selling, Rachel! God bless you as you stay always eager for what only God has to offer! love and prayers!

  20. Thank you, Pastor Rob, for showing us that though others take advantage, we have the advantage of grace! God bless you and all that you say Yes to, in Jesus!

  21. Firstly, it is a fact that it is becoming increasingly necessary to say “No thank you” because the world is sinking further into degradation with official approval – and sadly too many Christians are being deceived into thinking it is acceptable.

We need to stand up and be counted – not just avoid or walk away . . .
but . . . “No thank you” can always be said with grace and respect and should never be said with condemnation. Replying with respect will often give opportunity to explain the reason.

Our amazing God will give us the courage, the attitude and the words that will speak into hearts for Him.

  22. Hello, Deb. Hope you’re well? We do need to pay attention to Christ like qualities in every part of our Christian walk.
    God Bless You!

  23. I love your comments and heart for Jesus, Mentor Angela, that shows through. You’ve seen and done so much with Him. I always listen up and definitely can see where replying with respect will often give opportunity to explain our reasons for saying no. Thank you and God bless you as you trust Him with each situation, knowing He will not let you down.

  24. God bless you, Lady D, and how you respond to others, no matter what they are selling! Thank you so much for asking and yep, I’m doing good! Thanks be to Jesus! 🙂

  25. Deb – you are speaking such good truth this week! So much out there we do need to decline, but I love how your poem pointed out that we don’t have to be rude in how we go about it, because that’s often the problem 🙂 Hope you are having a wonderful grace-filled week xx

  26. That is what came to me, that it was more about how to not buy . ..self control. 🙂 Thank you so much for the encouragement here, sweet Aimee! You help me to keep going with my simple stuff! God bless you and yours this week too, bringing you much love and confirmations!

  27. There is much we are being asked to buy into today isn’t there? I love your word… we can disagree but we don’t have to be disagreeable in it. In fact we should not be!

  28. Thank you for the ever encouragement to be who He desires us to be! God bless you, Pastor J, as you stick with the real deal . ..Jesus!
