“‘This day is holy to the LORD your God, do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the word of the LORD. ” Nehemiah 8:9
“And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them.” Nehemiah 8:12
There is a sorrow that leads to repentance , when we hear God’s word and are convicted.
Lord, we thank You for not wanting us to mourn and grieve forever, but desire to forgive us and pour out Your love, joy and understanding upon us. And here’s a simple poem . . .
From Weeping to Rejoicing
When I first heard Your Word
and understood my sin
I asked for forgiveness
and was born again
You trade my sorrows
for Your joy and strength
adding to my days
Love’s eternal length.
Wow!
(PS-I’ve been having problems with WordPress, have you been getting my posts updates? Just curious, I haven’t seen you there for a while)
OH SIS!! You put up my fave song–Thank You!!!! Oh, yes–it was too wonderful for words, to grieve no more for sin’s old rags–and now give Him praise, thankful new JOY. That’s what I call a costume change–PTL!!! God bless you Sis Deb, for all you do and give to touch others with His Grace. love, your sis Caddo
I appreciate how you emphasize the (Godly) sorrow that leads to repentance–the purpose of which is to bring us into a right relationship with the Lord.
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. ~Isaiah 61:3
What an amazing exchange!
Great Post!!
I’m so glad the Lord forgives us and then lets us dust off and go again. Great post, Deb. Rejoicing!
God Bless You!
“adding to my days Love’s eternal length.” Just beautiful, Lady Debbie!

Great posting… What a blessing it is to know that the Lord has given us a Godly sorrow that led to our salvation. There are some, I’m afraid that have only experienced the sorrow of this world. Lets be in prayer for them. 2 Cor 7:10
Thank you, Deb!
“Lord, we thank You for not wanting us to mourn and grieve forever, but desire to forgive us and pour out Your love, joy and understanding upon us.”

My husband loves that song trading my sorrows. when I think of holy it’s amazes me what we think God would consider holy when in fact if we took the time to ask we will find out that He does not consider what we call Holy at all…AMEN
What an exchange!
“You traded my sorrows for Your joy and strength”
You took my sin and gave me Your righteousness.
You took my burdens and gave me Your peace.
You took my weakness and gave me Your strength.
You took my hopelessness and gave me eternal security.
You took . . . . .
You took ALL that held me down and You gave me YOURSELF.
What an amazing God!
Can I do less than give my life back to You, my Redeemer?
