Such A Thing As This

“Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem,

and has extended mercy to me before the king and his counselors and before all the king’s mighty princes.”  Ezra 7:28

I’ve seen God do such a thing as this in my own life’s circumstances.

Lord, thank You for all that You put into the hearts of others, even unbelievers, in order to show us mercy.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

Extended Mercy

Model of Jerusalem in the late 2nd Temple Period.

Who but God
could do such a thing
putting into the heart
of a Persian king
to beautify the house
of the Lord our God
to show mercy upon
the lowly and down trod.

  1. These words are such a wonderful insight into God’s heart. Such extravagant grace he shows us!

  2. I love that Ali . ..extravagant grace. That’s our Jesus! 🙂 God bless you as He extends His love to you in abundance today!

  3. Deb,

This is a “little known secret” that many do not understand. Many tiems the Lord will use those who are lost to, in some way, be a blessing to those who are saved. It really happens more oftern than we may think.

Another posting that is a blessing to us all. Thanks for your faithfulness.

  4. our God is awesome and can change anyone’s heart, provided there is a want for change

  5. Thanks for sharing that, Pastor Rob! He can use whatever He wants to, right . .. He’s God! 🙂 God bless you and yours today, as He takes delight in your life lived for Him.

  6. We never know, do we, who or what He is going to work through for us? 🙂 God bless you and your heart that is so willingly to do His will! love and prayers for your day!

  7. thank you Debbie

  8. “…So I was encouraged, as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me…” (Ezra 7:28)

Many times, like with Ezra, God puts it into the heart of another to bless us, but it still takes God’s hand (power and favor) upon us to finish the deal.

  9. ‘Morning Sis Deb! Lovely simple poem of truth–and oh, such wonderful comments from your readers! I’m especially intrigued by Larry’s words–that we might “start” a blessing for someone, but God has to “finish” it–hmmm, that’s true too! Extravagant Grace–I’ll take a second helping of that, thanks!!! God bless you, and everyone at church today–much love, sis Caddo

  10. Oh I like that Mr. Larry . ..thank you! It’s Him doing it and finishing it. 🙂 What a merciful God! God bless you as His hand, power, and favor rests upon you.

  11. God bless you, Sis Caddo Delight, and I’m getting in line with you for those second helpings of extravagant grace! 🙂 love and prayers for your Woohoo Wednesday and all that He is starting and finishing in your life!

  12. God can and will use thing, any creature, any person to bring about His purpose – even those who are at enmity with Him.

What a blessing to us when He uses an unbeliever to bless us – but what a truly remarkable blessing upon blessing it is when He uses us to bless an unbeliever! May we always be available for Him to use.

    What an amazing God!

  13. That is a beautiful Bible verse and poem. Thank you for sharing it.

  14. Thanks Deb, I pray we complete what God puts in our hearts too! Blessings and thanks for your faithfulness!

  15. Mentor Angela . .that was really wonderful . .. to care more about being used as a blessing in an unbeliever’s life. 🙂 That’s you, sweet lady! God bless you as you stay available to be blessed and be a blessing! love and prayers!

  16. You are so welcome, wonderful woman of the Word! God bless you in all sorts of ways today! love and prayers!

  17. That’s a great prayer, Tom! How many times has something been put in my heart and I just left it there? God bless you!!!

  18. Ever so thankful of God’s grace and mercy. Great Post, Deb!
    God Bless you & yours!

  19. God bless you, too, Lady D, as He flies you on wings of mercy today! love and prayers!

  20. Even the wealth of the wicked is often used to build the Kingdom and bless the saints!

  21. What a good point, Pastor J! Thank you and God bless you as you see His mercy over you today!

  22. Debbie I have just nominated you for the Commentators Award. I know you don’t post these, but I wanted you to know that of all the people in Blogland, I think YOU deserve this award more than anyone. You are the greatest encourager as well as being the mouthpiece of the Lord.
