“In An Isolated House”

“He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned  fifty-two years in Jerusalem.  His mother’s name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem.”  2 Kings 15:2

“And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD. . .” 2 Kings 15:3

“Then the LORD struck the king, so that he was a leper until the day of his death; so he dwelt in an isolated house.  And Jotham the king’s son was over the royal house, judging the people of the land.”  2 Kings 15:5

The word isolation brings negative images to mind.

Lord, may those of us in more isolating circumstances develop an incredible relationship with You.  And here is a simple poem . . .

Pulled Aside

Are we really cut off
or just set apart

for a time of bonding
a special heart to heart

separated from being
in the midst of things

so we can listen and pray
to our King of Kings.

  1. Encouraging Debbie,

I could not hold back the tears, as I read this beautiful poem! It is so relevant to me right now! I thank God that during this time of being somewhat isolated due to illness, I am being drawn closer and closer to Him! Praise God!

I’ve not gotten around to my favorite blogs of late, because I have not been feeling well, but I’m so glad that God sent me your way today! Thank you once again, for a huge dose of encouragement! 🙂 May you be strengthened and encouraged today! 🙂

    Paulette

  2. What glorious truth you bring us in this poem, Deb. Thank you. Many of us have been pulled aside around the world, but we wouldn’t have it any other way eh?

Wasn’t the king (Amaziah) so like many churches? They start out in the Spirit doing what is right in the sight of the Lord and are mightily blessed. Then after a few years they become ho hum & smug; the devils move in with their religious ways, God leaves … and when He does so, leprosy takes over!

    Bless you heaps

    Roger

  3. A house divided against itself can not stand….The Lord wants us set apart for Him…Thanks for sharing your poem my dear..

  4. In order to develop right relationship, solitude definitely needs to be part of it.

  5. I loved this Deb! God never does anything without a purpose. May God richly bless your isolation with HIs incredible presence and continue to use you more and more mightily to build His Kingdom with your words!

  7. Deb, you’ve done it again! I praise God for your ear that is open to Him and your heart that wants to share Him with us. Thank you.

I am not critical of big worship services (on the contrary they SHOULD be) but for myself, I would MUCH prefer to be alone with God where I can worship Him with no distractions . . . “separated” . . . but one with Him.

What an amazing God that He should desire to be with me, just the two of us. How humbling. How awesome. What a privilege. What a responsibility – to make Him known to those who do not know Him.

  8. Brilliant! Sometimes the Lord needs to isolate us for the good!
    God Bless You!

  9. Dear Paulette . . .don’t you ever worry about coming by here , Okay? I love it when you do, but I so understand when you don’t!

I think of Jesus in His moments of isolation … facing temptation and remaining steadfast; sweating drops of blood, yet enduring it all for us.

“Lord, may those of us in more isolating circumstances develop an incredible relationship with You. ”
Praying alongside you, Dear Deb. Thank you.

    Blessings

P.S. I was trying to find a song called “Shut in with God” but I haven’t been successful. Will post it if I find it later.

  18. To hear His whisper we sometimes must be alone with Him.

  19. “Are we really cut off or just set apart…”

You are so right, Debbie! Would you have time to write every day to teach and glorify God? Would the activites of the world be so satisfying that you would give that up?

I wouldn’t give up my blog or prayer time… well, maybe for a day now and then… but it really is a blessing to be doing what we love. It’s a gift from Him, it’s what we’re good at. Thanks for an awesome reminder! Hugs to you, : )
