“And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.'” 1 Kings 19:7
“So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.” 1 Kings 19:8
If we think about it, all of our journeys are too great for us . . .but for Jesus.
Lord, thank You for being the food we need to go on today. And here’s a simple poem . . .
This Great Journey
We are all on a journey
this walk with the Lord
the way is known to be narrow
the path can seem very long
let us arise and eat early
what He willingly serves
and go on in the strength
of the Lord and His word.
“…let us arise and eat early
what He willingly serves…”
Like Elijah, we believers can fall from the highest spiritual highs to the lowest lows in just a few moments. How we handle these ups and downs in our journeys depends on our daily disciplines (prayer, worship, studying, and godliness). Although the word “discipline” is out of vogue right now for us believers, it is still the root word for disciples.
Thank you so much, Larry, for this great comment. I appreciate how you share all four of those disciplines . . .for a balanced journey. I know that for a long time I thought discipline meant punishment. But that’s not so!
God bless you as you journey on in Him today!
Debbie, all is covered here. Yes, we are on a journey, from the cross to glory, and the way is narrow and long, but He has provided all we need for the journey and He willingly serves it to us when we seek Him and His help. Then we can “go on in the strength of the Lord and His Word”
Without the “strength of the Lord and His Word” we are hopeless and doomed, but He withholds nothing to those who allow Him to rule, and He delights to give us the victory.
What an amazing God!
Good words from you, Sis, and the others–that “early” part is the kicker, although I would not choose any other “journey” but this one with HIM, and the lovely servants HE sends to accompany us–“angels unaware”…. Much love to you! God bless you and everyone here at “church”!
Thank you, Dearest Delightful Deb
“let us arise and eat early
what He willingly serves
and go on in the strength
of the Lord and His word.”
I have tried it in my own strength … didn’t work out too well.
Thankful He is my Strength and my Portion. 😉
Blessings
ann
“He willingly serves”–how true and yet sometimes I am a brat and turn up my nose because what He is serving is what I need, nourishment, and not what I think I want, empty calories
.
The blessing is He sometimes lets me have the empty calories but keeps the nourishment ready cause He knows I’m gonna need it after being a brat. He is an awesome Father.
“He delights to give us the victory.” Oh, I love that Mentor Angela and it’s so true. He’s not sabotaging our path, trying to trip us up.
God bless you and your amazing journey with your amazing God!
Early can be a relative term. haha! God bless you, Sis Caddo Delight, and fill you up with His love as you go in Him each day!
love you and am so glad you are here!
Ann full of grace and joy . .. you have me giggling at “it didn’t work out too well.” Amen. I’m joining you and praising Him for being our Strength and Portion today. God bless you as He powers you through your days! love and prayers!
Patricia . . .I love your comments. And that He lets us have a few empty calories too, knowing after we’re bratty we’ll be back for the good stuff. That is so precious! 🙂
God bless you and give you just what you need today . . .and even more!
Oh how some days we need to arise and eat more than others. I like this poem because it is encouraging and never suggests feeling sorry for ourselves! Thanks for your prayers, Debbie… I don’t know where I would be without my beautiful sisters. Hugs… : l
Reminds me of Matthew 4 – ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’
Love your poem – was a timely post, was just thinking this morning when I was ‘thirsty’ and satisfied by my time in the Word, of how grateful I am for the nourishment of His truth.
May He feed you what you need for today! Bless you beautiful Debbie xx
Lovely Linda, that is so true and we just don’t know what our day is going to be like, but He does. I really appreciate all the compassion that my brothers and sisters in Christ bring. 🙂 And Linda . . .I saw your comment over at Ann’s and it shook me. Praying for you extra tonight. This verse is on a picture where I take Aub for horse therapy. Praying it over you and yours tonight:
I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4 NIV
love, prayers and hugs.
Sweet Aimee, that is a wonderful way to feel after spending time in His Word. . .satisfied and grateful. Love that! Thank you so much for your prayers for me. He is answering them so faithfully. 🙂
God bless you and be your everything today! love and prayers!
Thanks, Debbie. Today is going to be a better day. I better go back to Ann’s and see if I sounded like a freak. : )
Nope, you didn’t. You are just doing a lot right now! I want to pray without ceasing for you! love you!
Praising the words you bless us with, each and every day!
