By The Word Of The Lord

“And he said, I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place. For I have been told by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall not eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by going the way you came.'”  1 Kings 13:17

“He said to him, ‘I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, “Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'”  But he lied to him.”  1 Kings 13:18

Otherwise good and godly people can ask us to do things that just aren’t right for us.

Lord, I pray to want for others what You want for them and have asked them to do.  And here’s a simple poem . . .

What You Want

Lord, if I detain
someone for me
when they are on
a mission for You

please quicken my heart
to let them go
to do what You
want them to.

  1. What a beautiful prayer. Thank you!!

  2. This is such a beautiful attitude. It made me cry. I am so thankful for you.

  3. Simply put, but deep in meaning. Thanks to you, my darling Deb, for starting my day with serious reflection on the deeper meanings of Scripture. Loving you! Blessings from your Bee 🙂

  4. Thank you, Deb

“Lord, I pray to want for others what You want for them and have asked them to do”

It’s easy to want them to do what He wants them to do if it lines up with my hopes. It gets a little harder when the desires are on opposite poles. Praying your beautiful prayer alongside you, Deb

    “please quicken my heart
    to let them go”

(Even if it’s not what I want for them…)

  5. 1 Kings 13 is one of the most remarkable Old Testament chapters. There is the unbelievable accuracy of a young prophet prophesying the coming of King Josiah three hundred years before it happened. Then, this is followed by a mixture of sin, rebellion, disobedience and finally the judgment of God.

Yet, through all of this imperfection, God advanced His will and plan for Judah.

Maybe grace was not mentioned much in the Old Testament, but it was still there for all to see.

  6. God bless you, AngelaMarie and all He is doing in your life and poetry! 🙂

  7. God bless you, wonderful woman of the Word, who comes to me by way of the Lord! 🙂 Thank you for helping me remember what He told me He expects of me . . .to have a right heart attitude. 🙂
love and prayers for you and yours and your day!

  8. Love you, beautiful Bee! God bless you and speak to you today, words of comfort and peace, direction and encouragement! You are the apple of His eye.

  9. Thank you dear Ann full of grace for another beautiful song to go with this! yay! 🙂 Yes, it is much easier if He is doing what we think He should be doing in someone else’s life. 😉 Praying for me to be sensitive to those whom He’s asked to do what I never thought about. God bless you, Ann, lifting you and carrying you through the rough places this week.

  10. Thank you so much for the synopsis of the chapter, that helps us see what’s going on much better, Larry! 🙂 And the grace . . .that it’s there in the Old Testament too . . .I love that. God bless you, prophet friend, and all that He is asking you to do this week.

  11. Oh WOW, Sis–this is quite a word, today! I wonder how often I’ve detained, or stood in the way…Definitely shows me another good prayer to include when I’m waiting at bus stops! Thank you so much for sharing what He brings to your heart and mind, and being His sweet and simple messenger. Bless you, angel Sis–today and always.

  12. How wonderful and profound, Debbie! Too often I see people based upon my walk, not on theirs. My constant prayer is to see through His eyes, not mine. Be blessed!

PS-I pray that the pictures will be a blessing to those who receive them. 🙂

  13. Sweet Sis Caddo Delight . . .I just can’t picture you standing in some one’s way, trying to keep them from doing what God told them to do. 🙂 You would be running after them, offering them pumpkin bread and soup to go. 😀
God bless you as you want what He wants for us all! love and prayers for your day!

  14. This is a good (and gentle) reminder that my idea of what is “good” may not in line with God’s best.

I, too, desire that quickening which says “YES!” to His will.

  15. Oh Ted . . .me too. Blogging has helped me see more of Him and how He works in people’s lives, with walks all so different and amazing.
I didn’t know I was your first customer! I love that and pray that you have many , many more. I think it is such a great thing to do with those beautiful shots. God bless you Ted, as you do what He wants you to do!

  16. God bless you, sweet Heather, and all your Yeses to Him! 🙂
    love and prayers!

  17. A heartfelt prayer. May we be found encouraging others to follow the Lord and NEVER guilty of standing in someone’s way.
As a counsellor it is sometimes tempting to give advice based on one’s own perceptions rather than to direct the person to seek and find God’s will for themselves. Lord, may my words be only Your words!

This also applies from the other direction. We tend to seek advice from friends – nothing wrong with that. It is good to turn to Christian friends for advice, and we value their advice, but the final analysis must be what GOD wants – and I am the only person who can know what God wants for me.

  18. I love your comments, Mentor Angela . . .so full of His wisdom and grace. You’re right in that there are times when counselors do have to give counsel and we do need to ask others for advice. Thinking that if He has told me what to do . . .then maybe I should just do it and not ask anyone else and get talked out of it. 🙂 Praying with you that my words may be His words, when someone wants to know what I think they should do!
God bless you and keep you, as you want His will above all else!

  19. Good reminder Deb. We are to let the Lord control people. We are to serve people.

  20. That is a great way to put it, Pastor J! God bless you and guide you as you counsel and serve others each day!
