First to God, Then to Us

“. . .but first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.”  2 Corinthians 8:5

I’m so thankful for all the humanitarian efforts being done world-wide.

Lord, please let us not leave You out of what we do for each other. And here’s a simple poem . . .

A Giving Pattern

I gave Myself
first to My Father
before I gave
Myself for you.
As that was
the Father’s will for Me
so it is also
His will for you.

  1. Thank you, again great stuff!

  2. very nice
    Thank you Debbie!

  3. “. . .but first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.” 2 Corinthians 8:5

The Macedonian believers were suffering through deep poverty at the time of Paul’s collection for the saints in Jerusalem. Yet, it was these believers that God moved to give abundantly.

Paul later explained in his letter to the Philippians the Lord’s reasoning behind this:

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19)

Just another example of God’s reasoning compared to man’s thinking.

  4. This is an appropos’ post coming into this weekend. Monday is the international day of prayer for the poor and suffering, a day when we shall all be able to seek God for answers to the world’s pain and to allow His Holy Spirit to speak to us about what we can do! Thanks Deb for all you do!

  5. God bless you as you give yourself to Him today!

  6. Thank you hero, for all you do for others, because you are His. God bless you as He reaches out to us through you.

  7. Thank you Larry, for giving the background story to this, to help us understand further. I know personally how I feel when things get tight and sparse and will try to remember that it might be exactly then that He wants me to give the most. 🙂
God bless you as He works out His reasoning in your life.

  8. Pastor J . . .I didn’t know that about this coming Monday. Thank you for sharing that, so that we can give ourselves to Him in prayer and then to others in need.
    God bless you always!

  9. Thank you, Deb…

    Beautiful piece.

Made me think immediately of this song:

  10. Oh Deb, I’m so glad, that is your pattern. That should be the pattern of every believer. It reminded me that I am in the Lord’s hands, and that I need to seek Him first and trust Him for the outcome.

  11. Oh Ann full of Jesus grace, joy and song . . .that was really beautiful. Thank you so much and God bless you as you give yourself away today. What a gift you are to us in blogland!

  12. I think I forget this . . .kind of rush in and want to do things before checking with Him first. God bless you, wonderful woman of the Word, as you rest in His hands tonight!

  13. I think about those wonderful humanitarian causes, and I also wonder where the money goes. I have to know that’s God hand is in their work. As for me, I give myself to Him everyday because He’s the one I trust. Hugs… : )

  14. I love your trust and faith in Him. It shows! And it blesses and does a work all its own. And I think that is the point. To let Him do the work through us and get the glory . . .not us in our pride thinking we got this, that we can save the world.
God bless you and you bless us!

  15. Your ‘Giving Pattern’ …works

    ~love your poem

  16. You have truly done this giving to God then to others , faith filled fisher lady! God bless you and your willingness to go to Him with everything.
