Very Heavy

“Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people.
For there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.” 1 Samuel 5:11

The Philistines could not carry the weight of the ark of the Lord any longer.

Lord, we thank You that the hand that is heavy against your enemies, is also careful to gently lift us. And here is a simple poem . . .

His Own Place

Let the ark and His presence
return to its place

among the hearts of His people
those who seek His face

for His splendor and His glory
cannot be denied

nor shared with any idol
He alone is magnified.

  1. Thank you, Deb!

“Lord, we thank You that the hand that is heavy against your enemies, is also careful to gently lift us”
Sweet!! Amen from me over here! I grew up thinking His hand would always be heavy against me. So comforting to know the loving, father-heart of my Papa.

May He be magnified in our praise today.

    Blessings much
    Ann

  2. ““Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people…”

If this would have happened in our cities of today, we Christians would have been quick to assign it to just random natural happenings, certainly not a judgment from God.

Maybe we Christians can learn something from these pagans who seemed to fear God, much more than we do.

  3. I love your “amens”, sweet Ann full of Jesus grace! 🙂 And that you know the loving side of the Father’s heart, that gently cares for you and is not heavy handed.
God bless you as you magnify Him today!

  4. Good point, Larry! The fear of God is something I was just considering this morning. Maybe you could do a series on it? 🙂 God bless you Larry, as you learn and teach us to learn too!

  5. Good idea. I think I will do it.

  6. Hi Debbie,

This song came to mind, Nobody Greater! “Lord, we thank You that the hand that is heavy against your enemies, is also careful to gently lift us.” It’s amazing, that same hand reached down and touched my life! Glory to God!

  7. What a blessing . . .a comment and a song! Love it! Thank you much!!!
God bless you, Praising-Him-Paulette, as His hand stays upon you for good and for His glory.

  8. >> “He alone is magnified”
This is our heart’s desire but I wish it were true more often.
When HE ALONE is magnified we will see mighty changes in our communities.

I am constantly amazed that God’s hand is NOT heavy against us. Considering all He has done for us, and all He has given us to equip us to live a victorious life, His hand SHOULD be heavy towards us when we go our own way, in our own strength, following our own will . . . . . but, praise God, His hand is always gentle towards us, even when He chastises us and He lovingly and gently brings us back to Himself.

    What an amazing God!

  9. Thank you so much, mentor Angela, for saying what needs to be said. What mercy He shows us. Praying not to take His gentleness for granted!
God bless you as you yearn to magnify Him today!

  10. Deb, I love this poem! My favorite stanza is:

for His splendor and His glory
    cannot be denied

That is so true. Many try to deny His greatness, but that does not diminish who He is and what He has done for us and in us to make us victorious! Peace, Linda

  11. I love that too, Linda, that no matter what, He is great! 🙂
God bless you as you share all that He is and has done for you!
