Desperate Giving

“Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” 1 Samuel 1:11

Hannah kept her promise and gave back the son she so desperately wanted.

Oh Lord, I desperately want to put back into Your hand everything You have given me. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Asking for a gift
I can give to You

something of use
that has meaning and value

like Hannah gave up Samuel
and You, a Son too

let me think first of the Kingdom
and surrender all I do.

  1. So beautifully put – we receive so much more when we give up everything! Thank you for these words of truth today.

  2. To think first of the kingdom…that is something I have been struggling with. Thank you for this beautiful post!

  3. It appears that God is definitely speaking to His people. On a few blogs of late, including my own, a common thread has been “giving.” Whether it be giving of our spiritual gifts, our talents, our substance, or spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the messages have been very similar in content.

May we hearken unto the voice of the Lord, and give unto the Lord, as He would have us to give. “… Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25: 35- 40)

  4. Thank you Deb

“Oh Lord, I desperately want to put back into Your hand everything You have given me.”
Amen. This is just so beautiful! 🙂
All I have is Yours, Lord.
(Delightful Deb, why does your post make me think of Christmas?)

  5. “…something of use
    that has meaning and value…”

As Leonard Ravenhill said: “Hannah wanted a baby, but God wanted a Samuel.”

  6. Thank you for that beautiful comment and thought . . .for helping us see how different it is with Jesus. You bless me! God bless you as you give in wonderful ways today!

  7. I must have been too, wonderful woman of the Word . . .so He reminded us both. 🙂 God bless you as you think of Him and put today into His hands.

  8. what an earnest and lovely prayer!
Whatsoever things are lovely, pure, honourable, of a good report…
think on these things… What a tender heart…

  9. Dear praising Paulette, thank you for the Matthew 25 verse! Yes! It puts giving in a different way. The common thread of giving may come at this time of much need, when people are suffering more each day in ways only He can alleviate through us.
God bless you as you place your pain in His hands today and see what He does with it for His Kingdom, desperate to see Him glorified.
    love and prayers

  10. Oh Ann full of Jesus grace, you have me thinking about that gift of Jesus that He gave and placing all that He is doing inside me back into His hand. 🙂 You just gave me a Christmas blessing!
God bless you, giver of your all for Him! May your day be one of the many that He takes and uses in miraculous ways.

  11. Thank you once again for a great quote and the thoughts it stirs! You help me think and pray about what I want in a different way. God bless you and all that He is doing with what you place back into His hand.

  12. Sweet faith-filled fisherlady . . .I see your tender heart in your comments. Now you have me thinking of more things to place back into His hand, those pure and lovely things of good report that we think . .. like your poems!
God bless you and the way you live out your life, giving back to Him.

  13. A great reminder Debbie!

  14. Eloquent and indicting, well done. – Moskowitz

  15. giving is such a unique thing…. we all come with something different for the Lord and each other. Cain and Abel both gave, Hannah gave, Rahab gave, Abraham gave, and it goes on and on. Because He always sees our heart He can esteem the value of the gift, a widow’s mite or all the earth’s riches…
I pray that we might give our best, all that holds our heart, all that we esteem of great value…
God gave His best, the One he held closest to His heart, the One Esteemed ….
May we always give as much
    may we always give Jesus
In every gift we give may Jesus be the heart of it, the true treasure, the real gift…
Thank you for your words that always lead to the cross, to the empty tomb, to Christ in us, our hope of Glory ❤
I always have so much fun coming to your blog! Yay!

  16. “and surrender all I do” . . . definitely, and even more so, “surrender all I AM”. Lord, take ALL of me! I want to belong to You 100% – all I am, all I have, all I say, all I do, all I think, all I feel . . . all!

  17. YES, mentor Angela. I struggled with that end to the poem, because it rhymed . . .but it didn’t say enough. So thank you for adding the right ending! 🙂
God bless you as you give Him all!

  18. God bless you, Buddah . . .a true writer of eloquent and indicting poetry! 🙂

  19. God bless you Eden, as you put what you have in His hands! Just like He put a camera in yours!
