Let Your Eyes Be Here

“Then Boaz said to Ruth, ‘You will listen, my daughter, will you not? Do not go to glean in another field, nor go from here, but stay close by my young women’.” Ruth 2:8
Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn.” Ruth 2:9

Ruth was willing to listen. Am I?

Oh Lord, may I be willing to glean where, and what, and when You ask me to. And here’s a simple poem . . .

This Field

Stay in this field
the one for you I’ve chosen

close by my servants
as the harvest unfolds.

Have I not commanded
my protection over you?

Keep your eyes here now
embrace all I do.

  1. Deb, I love Ruth, though I haven’t read it in a long time. I’m so glad you are going through it. Your poem iet wonderful! What a terrific reminder that God knows the field He has chosen for each of us. Peace, Linda

  2. I love Ruth too! It’s short but so sweet . . .and a happy ending! And, I have a sweet friend named Ruth and my dear mother-in-law is named Ruth! 🙂
God bless you and all that He has chosen for you!

  3. “Stay in this field
the one for you I’ve chosen…”

Probably, the biggest mistake we believers make is moving out of our God-assigned field into one which looks like it has greener grass.

My 87-year old mom is named Ruth.

  4. Thank you, Larry, for your always insightful comments! 🙂 I must remember that what God sees in the field is not the same thing that I might see there. I need to stay and keep looking, gleaning, working.
Is your mom short and sweet too? 🙂

  5. Interesting … I’ve been thinking about how we are to stay in the calling in which we were called “Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called.” (1 Corin 7:20). We are all at a time and place for a reason in our lives. Often with God will feel we have to be somewhere else doing something “greater” or “better” for the kingdom. Who are we to say? If we focus on seeking the kingdom of heaven, then God’s light will shine through us in the place we are at – as God wills.

  6. Thank you, Rachel, for that insight. It really helps. There does, just in my own life, seem to be a constant question of whether or not one shouldn’t be doing more, or simply be in something else altogether. Maybe one of the many tricks to keep us from being where we are suppose to be, where He will use us the most.
God bless you as you live out His will for you this day!

  7. The Lord has led to several different “fields” over the years but each time He places us in a field it is the place of His choosing and if we want His best, it is where we should stay and depend on Him to fulfill His purpose in that place.

The best part of entering a new “field” – scary as it may be in some respects – is that with the move comes His guidance, His protection, His enabling and all we need to shine for Him in His appointed place.

    What an amazing God!

  8. Thank you for your always wise comments, mentor Angela! 🙂 You blessed me with the thoughts of coming into a new field with His guidance, protection and enabling. Now that is exciting.
God bless you as you praise your amazing God!

  9. Sometimes the Lord assigns us a field and we gobut not longafter that we can forget what wearesupposed to be doing there. Pray that the Lord will keep me mindful of His purposeand that I will use my time more wisely…that I won’t just roll around like a dog in the flower beds.

  10. This was such a revelation to me, Theresa! Thank you! Praying that for you and for me too!!!!
God bless you and His purpose for you today!
    love you!
