Weeping Before God

“Then all the children of Israel, that is, all the people, went up and came to the house of God and wept . They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening . . .” Judges 20:26

When was the last time I really wept before the Lord? I think it’s been too long.

Lord, break my heart for my brothers and sisters, for the lost and the hurting today. And here’s a simple poem . . .

For Real

I can bring others to You
with a nice little prayer

and not have to get too messy
or involved in what’s there

or I can let You show me
how it is You feel

when You know someone is suffering
and begin to pray for real.

  1. Thank you, Deb
This is an absolutely wonderful piece! You took me back, way back to the days I would awaken to my mother’s singing/praying… She taught us the importance of praying for others…

“Lord, break my heart for my brothers and sisters, for the lost and the hurting today”
I’ll not soon forget my mother’s prayers but there are days I don’t pray as I should.

    Blessings
    ann

  2. P.S. Forgot to mention how piercing and pointed I found this to be…. Thanks you.

  3. That’s very powerful Debbie. We need to get messy.

  4. I like this reminder a lot. Thank you for sharing this piece with us.

  5. Deb, I’ve gone through periods of time where my heart was literally broken by God from grief over those who are lost and hurting. I know you’ve read some of my posts that came out of those times. I am thankful that I don’t have the incredible pain in my heart all of the time – He knows when I need a rest from it – but I ready whenever He calls me again to that place. Peace, Linda

  6. Dear Ann full of Jesus grace, I have read some of your comments about your mom and grandma praying and I know the impact that has had on your life and others! And that captures the whole point, doesn’t it? 🙂 I do pray and weep before Him, but I have felt Him calling me to it more deeply.
Thank you for the song!!!! Music is so much a part of you and what a wonderful way to encourage. bless and minister to others!
God bless you as you come before Him today!

  7. I agree, Tammy. Or, at least, He’s asking me to get messy! ha!
God bless you and yours and all that He is doing in your life!

  8. “…When was the last time I really wept before the Lord? I think it’s been too long…”

    Same is true for me.

  9. Thank you soooo much Tara! I read your post about siezures and will be back to comment. God bless you as He reminds you of who you are in Him today . . .a wonderful, beautiful daughter!

  10. Thank you, Linda, for sharing about Him knowing what we need and when we need it. So true! God bless you as you listen ready for His call!

  11. God bless you, Larry, as you follow where He leads. Looking forward to following Him into more of these times . . .starting today.

  12. Deb, thank you for this. It helped me take my eyes off of me, and I needed to do that. There are so many out there that need our prayers and His heart in those prayers.

  13. Thank you, sweet Angel. I loved what you said, about His heart in our prayers. Yes, that is what I want when I’m praying. God bless you as you pray and stay with Him.
love you and am thinking of you!

  14. This is wonderful Deb … prayers are so powerful for others — may we never underestimate the power a prayer of a child of God holds.

John 14:13-14 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

  15. Thank you so much, Rachel , for reminding us not to underestimate prayer. I’ve prayed and wept today . . .and His presence and peace overwhelm me. God bless you for your ever encouragement to seek a life lived for and with Jesus.

  16. In clicking the “Like” button I thought the word is somewhat inappropriate. Can we “like” such a challenge?

No, we don’t like being challenged, but we should like it, because the Lord is speaking. I appreciate the challenge. We NEED to weep over lost souls. We NEED to weep for those who are hurting. We NEED to weep for the oppressed. We NEED to weep for those who are being influenced by false teachers. We NEED to weep over our own lack of deep concern.

Thank you Deb for the wake-up.

  17. You have me smiling about the Like button. haha! But this is definitely something that I NEED.
God bless you, Mentor Angela, for your honesty before God and men, and your prayers!

  18. “or I can let You show me
    how it is You feel

when You know someone is suffering
and begin to pray for real.”

You are right. There is a difference. He longs for our hearts to be near Him and near others. But we cannot muster up a right heart attitude…but we can and should acknowledge that we need one and ask Him to grant us one. This is something that we will do repeatedly as he continually reveals our state to us…

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…”

    Love,

    Theresa

  19. Your comment has got me crying, sweet woman of the Word. A good cry. God bless you as you hunger for Him and pray for those He lays heavy on your heart.
    love you!

  21. I’m so thankful that He can use simple poems! 🙂 Thank you for encouraging me today, to keep at this, that there is a reason for writing this way. God bless you and your pure heart for Jesus!
