Taken Away

“So he said, ‘You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and you have gone away. Now what more do I have? How can you say to me, ‘What ails you’?” Judges 18:24

At the end of Chapter 17, Micah was sure that God would be good to him now. And so He was.

Lord, please help me to surrender anything in my life that I am worshiping more than You, before it has to be taken away. But either way, I want it to go. And here’s a simple poem . . .

What More Do I Have?

I see what I have is good
and it certainly may be
but am I thinking more of it
than I am of Thee?

I give it back to You, oh Lord
before I set it on a throne
and rejoice in the blessing
of worshiping You alone.

  1. “…I give it back to You, oh Lord…”

I once gave a material item to the Lord and later it was in the process of being taken away from me. I cried, ” O Lord, don’t let it be taken away from me.”

He eventually replied, “You gave it to Me, and if I want to take it from you, you shouldn’t care, since it’s Mine, right?”

It was hard to argue with His logic.

  2. Oh ouch! He certainly has a way of teaching us, doesn’t He?
I am pretty . . .simple. He often takes things away, but lets me think it was my idea to give them up . . .for awhile. Then the truth dawns on me, but He’s there and filling in that place of what was taken away. I’m such a wimp. If I was in your shoes, I’d have been crying for sure!
God bless you Larry, as you give in to His logic today!

  3. Deb, You hit the nail on the head again, with that same thing that I’ve been stubbornly trying to ignore. Your poem is wonderful! The first stanza is a very important question. I am feeling compelled to read this whole chapter of Judges. Will have to do that later today. Peace, Linda

  4. Thank you, Dearest Delughtful Deb!!

“I give it back to You, oh Lord
before I set it on a throne”

I was thinking last night just how blessed and happy I am despite the realities I have to deal with. I found myself in a state of thanksgiving that I couldnt explain. Thank you for reminding me that it’s all for His glory. While I am blesse and happy, I do not desire to have anything that will cause me to want Him less.

    Blessings much
    Ann

  5. Oral Roberts once explained how God liked to talk to him with a 2×4 when his wife, Evelyn, interrupted him and said, “Why Oral, if God talked to me like that I’d just die.”

We need to remember that God talks to us in whatever words our personality can quickly understand. It’s not that you’re a wimp or I’m a tough guy, it’s just how He can get His message across to us.

  6. Sorry, Linda! I really am not trying to keep pounding on that nail. I can feel so happy and blessed . . .just want to make sure I realize it’s because of Him.
God bless you as you keep listening and obeying Him!

  7. Love this comment, Ann full of grace. It is this joy and blessedness that comes more from Him being in your life than from whatever else is there. When I’m not feeling that, you have given me the clue to why and the need to ask Him what I am trying to set upon the throne, that is bringing me down.
God bless you as you want Him and more of Him!

  8. Deb, No need to apologize. The nail needed pounding and your just the instrument of God nudging me along to be more like Him. Peace, Linda

  9. Hi Debbie,

This poem is another pearl of wisdom the Lord has blessed you with! (Why you use the word simple to describe your poems, I’ll never know! 🙂 They are anything but…)

Thank you for delivering such a profound message! Our God tells us we are to have no other gods before Him. Any good gifts we have, are given to us by our Lord and Savior! Therefore we are to worship Him alone for the gifts, and not allow the gifts to be placed on the throne of our hearts! Excellent reminder Debbie! Thank you, again!

May the Lord continue to grant unto you wisdom, as you share with us what He has placed upon your heart today!

  10. Dear Paulette . . .thank you for caring and coming and praying! Your comments are always a blessing and a praise to Jesus. I love that!
The poems are simple in that they usually just say what they mean and aren’t really worded very poetically. Not considered good poetry in the literary world! ha! But, it’s what keeps coming out of me. What’s a girl to do? 🙂
I appreciate you so much Paulette, and how you are always worshiping Him and showing us how to too! He is definitely on the throne where you are concerned!
love and prayers for your day!

  11. A typical response from young people, challenged about their commitment, is “But there’s nothing wrong with . . . .”

It is a difficult lesson to learn that “good” things can be wrong for us – even such things as Christian service, if it is out of God’s will or done for the wrong reason.

Fact: Anything that comes between me and God IS a god to me.

    Thanks for the reminder Debbie.

  12. Thank YOU, Angela! You are our wise and wonderful mentor here in blog land! I like how you tell the truth and the facts plainly! We need to hear that. Okay, I need to hear that. And there have been many good things that others can do and have that He has not wanted for me.
God bless you as you let nothing come between you and your God!

  13. As soon as we take our eyes of Him we drift into a state of idolatry. Our flesh will worship anything except the Lord, and its favorite God is “Self”. Great post! 🙂

    Love,
    Theresa

  14. Oh wise and wonderful woman of the Word . . .this is such a truth. Not in a condemning way . . .just an honest way. 🙂
God bless you as you keep your eyes on Him today. And help us to too!
love you and thank you for making time to be here!
