When Responding

“When the Angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and his wife, then Manoah knew that He was the Angel of the Lord.” Judges 13:21
“And Manoah said to his wife, ‘We shall surely die, for we have seen God’!” Judges 13:22
“Then his wife said to him, ‘If the Lord had desired to kill us, He would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things, nor would He have told us such things as these at this time’.” Judges 13:23

One happening . . .two very different responses.

Lord, I desire to respond to people and situations according to the truth of Your word and who You are. And here’s a simple poem . . .

First Response

Let me stop and consider
what is happening
and put it through the filter
of Jesus my King
to see if what I know of Him
is from where my thoughts arise
to form my first reactions
based on truth instead of lies.

That particular quote is worthy of appearing on Brainyquote.com for all to check out. It’s that good.

    Thanks.

  2. God bless you, Larry, for doing just what it says! Praying for you and yours a good Labor Day weekend.

  3. Oh, Deb….I’m about to pray this poem. Pray for me that the Lord will renew my mind so my prayer will be sincere.

    Love,
    Theresa

  4. To see all things through Jesus’ eyes–the first time I see them and not just upon reflection. Working on it…

  5. Praying for you, wonderful woman of the Word! I have been tested myself this weekend, on this very thing. But, I like how He has me write something and then has me live it. . .hopefully. πŸ™‚
God bless you and renew you as you pray!
    love for your weekend!

  6. That is it for me too, Patricia. . .my first response is not always the best. Working on it with you! God bless you and your thoughts today!

  7. Deb, This is awesome! Jesus as our filter for all we hear and see is a wonderful idea. To react based on truth – the Truth – and not lies can be a challenge, but with the Holy Spirit at the helm it is possible. Reaction time is also important because it can take time to hear the Holy Spirit speak. Snap judgments are seldom a good idea. Peace, Linda

  8. Thank you for the advice about snap judgments! πŸ™‚ It does take time, and sometimes we are not a patient people. God bless you as you seek His truth each day!

  9. This poem strikes a chord on my heart strings. It brought to mind the previous post titled, “Of The Lord”, and the comment I left there. Because I don’t understand everything that I’m going through, I must “stop and consider what is happening and put it through the filter of Jesus my King.”

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Outstanding poem Debbie! Thank you so much for sharing! May the Lord continue to richly bless you! πŸ™‚

  10. Thank you so much for encouraging me and know that He does indeed bless me. One of those blessings is you! πŸ™‚ You have such a heart of praise and worship, I can’t help but be helped each time I read your posts and comments!
God bless you and cover you through all that you are going through.

  11. I am falling behind in many things. Please pray that the Lord will help me. I miss reading my friends blogs…I am hungry for manna.

    Love,
    Theresa

  12. Sweet Theresa . . .I don’t know how you could not fall behind in some things!!! So I am praying that He helps order your days, makes time where there seems to be none, strengthens you in His spirit and word, and gives you peace about your path. I know you miss being here and we miss you too . . .but it’s more important right now that you do the work in front of you. We are not forgetting you and are cheering you on! πŸ™‚ You are an inspiration to us!!!
    love you lots!!!!

  13. >> “and put it through the filter
    of Jesus my King”
How different our world would be if we all used this precept on everything we think, say and do!

    >> “to form my first reactions”
My FIRST reactions – when they are controlled by God, they WILL be effective. Sadly, we usually react on our own impulse first and only look to Him when things go wrong.

    This is a challenge. Thanks.

  14. It is a challenge . . .but one I think glorifies Him and so I want to keep asking Him to help me with it! πŸ™‚
God bless you, dear Angela, and all the ways you are under His control!
