A Deliverer

“So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and Asherahs.” Judges 3:7
“Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.” Judges 3:8
“When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.” Judges 3:9

God has raised up a deliverer for us all in His Son, Jesus.

Lord, no matter where or to what depths our sin has taken us, let us cry out to You now and be saved. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Cry Out To Jesus

I kept falling farther
and farther down the stairs

no sense trying to climb out
I couldn’t get up from there

every move sunk me deeper
and deeper into despair

until I cried out to Jesus
and He became my answer and my prayer.

  1. Wonderful, Deb! I love your devotions and poems, because they cause me to actually think and reflect.

  2. Thank you so much, Ted, for being here and adding that great quote. It brought tears to my eyes. God bless you as you reflect and seek Him today!

  3. Thank you, Deb

Despair came when I panicked. When I realized I was about to go down for the last time. When I figured I couldn’t save myself. I despaired, but thank God, He Delivered!!

  4. Thank you, Ann, full of Jesus grace! Loved the song (you did it again!)
I know that I would not be here today, if He hadn’t delivered me out of the pit I was in! Thank you, Jesus!
God bless you and your grateful heart for Him!

  5. We have but to cry out to Him and He will answer—But how often pride gets in the way and we give up. Amazing that Jesus never gives up on us…

  6. I forget that now. since I cry out to Him so often! Thank you for showing us how amazing He truly is! God bless you, Patricial!

  7. Hey, Deb. Way to keep it vividly real, day after day after . . .

I just saw one of your comments at http://biblepoetry.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/overburdened-giants-2/

Here’s one of my latest (first attempt at “concrete” poetry in a long while): http://geoffpope.com/poetry/2011/08/20/anointed-lion/

  8. Deb, It’s so easy to be critical of the Israelites because they continually “did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.” But often we are no better. I am so thankful that just as He delivered the Israelites over and over when they humbled themselves and cried out to Him, Jesus delivers us when we cry out to Him, too. I love how your poem ties in our own rebellion to that of the Israelites in Judges and points us to our Great Deliverer. Peace, Linda

  9. Sorry, Sir Geoff . . .I up and forgot to reply to your comment! Just went to check out your poem! ha! So blessed that you keep writing and keep in contact yet. 🙂
God bless you and yours and all that He does in you and through you!

  10. Linda, thank you for understanding my heart here. I read and hear others talking about those Israelites. What if all of my doings and journeys were published for the world to see and read . . .and comment on? eeeekkk! I tend to see myself in them and everyone else that may not be quite on track.
Hey, isn’t there a Third Day song, “Cry Out to Jesus”? 😉
God bless you as you live thankful to your Deliverer!

  11. Eeeeekk is right! Although I guess some of my journey and wanderings are published on my blog for the world to see and comment on, but I get to filter out the parts I don’t want anyone but God to see. 😉

And yes, there is a Third Day song called Cry Out to Jesus. They sang it at the concert last Saturday and it kept running through my head when I was reading your post. 🙂 Peace, Linda

  12. Very beautiful!
    Thanks for posting Deb 🙂

  13. Thanks for stopping by Marcos! I love your photos! One of these days maybe I’ll learn how to take amazing shots and combine them with my posts . . .or maybe not. ha!
God bless you and your photography!

  14. Ahh thank you so much Deb!!
    You are very kind !!
I think you shoot beautiful photos, because you are sensitive 🙂
    God bless you….always. Have a wonderful day/night!!!

  15. Thank you Deb.
He is always there. He is always ready. He is always able. He always wants to bless us even more than we want to be blessed.
All we have to do is look to Him and seek His face.
    What an amazing God!

  16. Thank you Angela, for pointing the way to Him always! You are a blessing of His to us all!
God bless you and inhabit your praises today!
