Two Visions

“About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, ‘Cornelius!'” Acts 10:3
“I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me.” Acts 11:5

Both Cornelius and Peter were in prayer when they received a vision from God.

Lord, we desire to be people of prayer whom You can trust to send visions to, knowing we will respond. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Open Our Eyes

You gave Cornelius a vision
telling him what to do

while Peter saw the Gentiles
were clean too.

Open our eyes, Lord
to what You want us to see

please give us visions
for Your Kingdom’s glory.

  1. Does it ever seem like there are seasons where God’s will is so close and clear, that there is never any doubt of His plans? I’ve had those times… but now I think I’m in a period or rest and re-energizing.

Not all bad, but I miss the spiritual excitement! Hugs… : )

  2. “…while Peter saw the Gentiles
    were clean too…”

Lord, like Peter, help me to see all the ones who are accepted by You, too.

  3. A wonderful prayer, to see as the Lord sees and to see what He sees. Be blessed, Debbie! 🙂

  4. Those visions are so precious! Thank you so much for sharing what the Lord shows you in your poems! 🙂 Here is a song I hope will bless you:

“Open my eyes, that I may see
    Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

    Refrain

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
    Open my eyes, illumine me,
    Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
    Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
And while the wave notes fall on my ear,
    Everything false will disappear.

    Refrain

Open my mouth, and let me bear,
    Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.”

    Love,
    Theresa

  5. Thanks, Deb 🙂

    “Open our eyes, Lord
to what You want us to see”

“Lord, we desire to be people of prayer whom You can trust to send visions to, knowing we will respond.”
    I so pray!!!

Sometimes we see only what we want to see (giants vs grasshoppers). At other times, we deliberately close our eyes against the truth of what He wants us to see, simply because we don’t want to deal with that reality … Trusting we will be honest enough to see truth through His eyes.

    Blessings.

Here’s the version I found on youtube.

  6. I think there are different seasons, Linda . . .and I’m like you. I start wondering what I’ve done wrong, missing those other times! 🙂
God bless you in whatever season He has you!

  7. That’s a great prayer, Larry and an important one.Just thinking that we may waste a lot of time focusing on things we don’t need to. God bless you Larry and the visions He gives you.

  8. Thanks, Ted, and God bless you as you pray!

  9. Thank you for that precious hymn, dear woman of the Word! (and hymns!)

“Open my mouth, and let me bear,

Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.”

I liked that stanza so much! 🙂

love and prayers for you and yours!

  15. Deb, I don’t know if you got a chance to read my Saturday post, but I am amazed by how my “dream” post followed the next day after this post about God giving visions to Peter and Cornelius. I don’t believe God stopped giving visions at the end of Acts! Great post and a terrific poem. Peace, Linda

  16. I’m not sure if I read it or not, Linda! I’m kind of hitting and missing as I’m coming and going yet. But I love how He does that! I don’t believe He’s stopped giving visions either. 🙂
God bless you and can’t wait to catch up with what all you’ve been writing and doing!
