“And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority’,” Acts 1:7
“‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth’.” Acts 1:8

Knowledge can puff us up, but trusting Him keeps us humble.

Lord, we thank You for a power we cannot generate to witness to You and not ourselves. And here’s a simple poem . . .

Power to Bear

Asking and waiting
to receive

the power of
Your Holy Spirit

to bear witness
of Your greatness

knowing only in Whom
we believe.

  1. Wow, Deb

    Thank you!

“Lord, we thank You for a power we cannot generate to witness to You and not ourselves.”
We have new neighbours now. 4 new families moved in over the winter. …I am excited at what He can do through us. Praying alongside you.

“Knowledge can puff us up, but trusting Him keeps us humble.”
This is deep stuff, Dearest Delightful Deb. Reminds me of 1 Corinthians 1:18-19 … For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
Praying we will remain in a place where He will be free to use us for His glory.

Blessings much and thanks for sharing.

P.S. Do hop over to Pastor J’s when you have a moment. http://jelillie.wordpress.com/2011/07/16/futurtude/

  2. We believers who have the power act so often like we’re powerless. We need our minds renewed.

  3. He is the giver of grace to the humble…
Oh LORD, my heart cries out to you….

  4. Deb, I love these verses. I love how Jesus says “you shall received power.” He doesn’t say we might receive power, or that we will receive a limited amount of power. But so often we don’t tap into the Holy Spirit power to testify to Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son, and so His power is the same. It is the same power that created the world, created life, and redeemed life through Jesus’ death and resurrection! What a wonderful God we serve that He would grant us His power to do the work He sets before us. πŸ™‚ Peace, Linda

  5. I love your excitement and availability to Jesus, Ann full of grace! πŸ™‚ Will check out Pastor J asap.
God bless you as you witness of His greatness today.

  6. I know I need my mind renewed, Larry! So an amen from me. πŸ™‚ God bless you as you go forth in His power today.

  7. God bless your heart cry to Him and the witness you are, Manda! Thank you for coming by.

  8. Linda, I loved your comment and how you explained that this is the same power that created life, the world and redeemed us. What would we do without what He gives?
God bless you as you do in His power what He has for you today.

  9. Isn’t Pentacost the most exciting time in the whole Bible? Can’t you imagine a time when receiving the Holy Spirit was as powerful as that?

“Asking and waiting to receive”… an exciting and miraculous gift from God! Thanks for the reminder!

  10. You are so welcome, Linda! πŸ™‚ You brought some of that excitement here and I’m loving it. I can’t help as I read about it all again, thinking that it should be just as powerful now as then. God hasn’t changed, doesn’t change. πŸ™‚
God bless you and His Holy Spirit alive and well within you!

  11. I wish that pastor who keeps believe he and only he knows when the Rapture will happen would read your poetry. Humility is something he could use, I believe. After all, it says right in Scripture that no one knows the day or the hour, right? This was strong, good writing, Debbie. Blessings, Amy

  12. Amy, I am blessed by your encouragement and support. Thank you! I thought of that guy too, when I read Acts 1:7. πŸ™‚ God bless you and all the ways His Spirit moves in you to witness of Him!

  13. Hi Debbie,

Oh yes, our witness becomes powerful, after we have been endued with power from on high, the precious gift of the Holy Spirit! “Lord, we thank You for a power we cannot generate to witness to You and not ourselves.” This is certainly a power we cannot generate of our own volition. It is the power of the Holy Spirit, that enables us to walk up rightly before the Lord, and to do the things that are pleasing in His sight. We then become living epistles, read among men! A powerful witness for the Lord, indeed! Thank you for sharing, Debbie!

    May God bless you!

  14. Paulette, God blesses me with you! πŸ™‚ I love the thought of us being living epistles, read among men. All by His doing! God bless you and the praises that you constantly lift to Him!
